TEXTUAL ETHOS STUDIES: AN EXPLORATORY READER

The Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies is currently seeking reviews and
review essays for our special issue "Nostalgia," co-edited by Tom Lutz and
Sean Scanlan. Possible texts to review include, but are not limited to:
nostalgia in literature, film, television, architecture, music, art,
"entertainment", criticism and theory, memoir, fashion; and the nostalgic
qualities of recent critical texts not necessarily addressing nostalgia in
its content.

I am seeking contributors for The Dictionary of Literary Biography volume on
"American Poets of the 21st Century," a reference work about poets and their
lives and careers. The series is widely available in libraries and if you

Skandalon is a refereed graduate e-journal edited and published by the students of the Centre for the Study of Theory & Criticism, University of Western Ontario.

Within the confines of its biblical and ecclesiastical heritage, the word skandalon signifies a seductive enticement or occasion that incites behaviour that leads one to turn away from God and enter a movement towards ruin. In this very movement of reversal, however, there resides a going astray that points towards the thinking or theorizing of, or on, the scandalized.

Quiet Mountain: New Feminist Essays, monthly online journal of women's writing, seeks previously unpublished 1-4 page essays written by women, from a feminist perspective.

Essay topics may include anything pertaining to: women's writing, art, work, politics, health, economics; women's personal/professional/academic experiences; lesbian life; women and class or disability issues. In addition, Michigan Feminist Studies organizes a JOURNAL COVER DESIGN
COMPETION, with the submission deadline May 15, 2004. The cover design
should reflect this year's theme, Within Hostile Borders. We welcome cover
design contributions from art departments across the country as well as
international submissions from undergraduate and graduate students.

    My book Reading Arab Women's Autobiographies. Shahrazad Tells Her
Story was published last November (2003) by Texas University Press.
The book fills a gap in the field. Texas University Press expressed
interest in another book in the same area.
    In the book, I looked at autobiographical, fictional
autobiographical and anthologies of interviews with women. I read texts
by Huda Shaarawi, Nawal El-Saadawi, Fadwa Tuqan, Bouthaina Shaaban,
Fatima Mernissi, and Nayra Atiya. The book also examined the
sociopolitical background of the texts as well as the tradition of
narrative theory.

essays on dress/fashion in literature. We are interested in material

Race, Education, Identity:
Narratives of African American Education

We invite submissions for an forthcoming published collection of essays
exploring the complex relationship between African Americans and education in
the United States. In light of recent legal developments concerning
Affirmative Action, we seek to develop a genealogy of narratives exploring the
myriad ways education has impacted the formation of black identities (both
from within and without black communities) and the ways African Americans have
shaped—and continue to shape—national narratives of education.
