Editors seeking articles for a proposed book-length collection entitled
Performing Maternity in Early Modern England. Finished articles should be

The Journal for the Academic Study of Magic (JSM), a multidisciplinary, =

The journal will explore the topic of mothering and work/mothering as
work from a variety of perspectives and disciplines. We welcome
submissions from scholars, students, activists, policy makers, artists
and others who work or research in this area. We also welcome creative
reflections such as poetry, short stories, and artwork on the subject.

Toni Morrison and the Bible:

Proposals are requested for a contracted collection of essays on Toni
Morrison and the Bible. Papers may deal with any of Morrison's texts
and approach her use of the Bible from the standpoints of Judaism or
Christianity as well as from other religions/practices that may
intersect with or challenge what might be considered the dominant
theological discourse. I am particularly looking for a broad range in
topics, both in the approach taken and inthe texts the essays treat.
Ideally, I would like the collection to include some solidly theoretical
essays as well as some more traditional pieces of literary criticism.

Special Issue: Philip Roth's America

For an upcoming special issue of _Studies in American Jewish Literature_
(slotted for 2004, vol. 23), I am seeking critical essays devoted to
Philip Roth's recent exploration of American life in the last half of
the 20th-century. This "American Trilogy" includes the novels _American
Pastoral_, _I Married a Communist_, and _The Human Stain_. Consideration
may also be given to essays focusing on his other later works, such as
_Sabbath's Theatre_ and _The Dying Animal_, but ONLY as they relate to
Roth's recent socio-historical articulation of American identity. Topics
