Contemporary Structures of Renunciation

The Austrian Group for Applied Texts (Gruppe fuer angewandte Texte – GFAT)
is preparing an essay collection that will focus on structures of
renunciation within our contemporary society.

Accordingly, we welcome contributions from cultural and literary theorists
as well as from psychoanalysts, theologians and from other disciplines.

The short essays can relate to: sacrifice, martyrs, new consumer habits,
certain representations of pain and suffering in media etc. The
contributions will be published in English as well as in German
translation.

CALL FOR PAPERS: Finding the OX: Buddhism and American Culture (7/1/04)

The editors invite proposals of essays for a book on Buddhism and
American culture. Aimed at a readership across a wide range of
disciplines, Finding the Ox: Buddhism in American Culture will collect
essays that test and play with disciplinary boundaries between Literary
Studies, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies
and Queer Theory. The proposed papers engage theoretical problems, offer
close readings of specific texts, or (most fruitfully) ground
speculative debates within the practice of mindful reading. Specific
essays in the volume may consider:

CALL FOR PAPERS: Inaugural issue

Outside the Frame is a journal dedicated to examining emergent theories
concerning how technology is transforming the way we currently think of or
practice scholarship in the Arts and Sciences. We are specifically
interested in theoretical works that approach texts and technology from an
interdisciplinary perspective.

I am seeking contributions for a volume of critical essays on
representations of death in nineteenth-century US writing. The book is
currently under consideration by Ashgate Press. Essays on the following
topics would be especially welcome:

Representations of death/mourning in postbellum African-American writing or
Native American writing.

Representations of the Civil War in literature and popular culture.
(Suggested topics might include photographic representations of the Civil
War; national mourning and public monuments; the memorialisation of
battle-fields; autobiographical accounts of battle; Civil War fiction and
poetry).

Stirrings Still: The International Journal of Existential Literature seeks
review essays (1250-3000 words) and review notices (500-750 words) of books
published since June 2003. Stirrings Still is a forum for the discussion of
the relationship between existential literature & philosophy and postmodern
literature & theory and welcomes reviews of books in fields related to this
thematic ground.

We are particularly interested in reviews of recent scholarship in French
existential philosophy. Contributors of full-length reviews will receive a
copy of Stirrings Still. The deadline for submissions is the 1st of June
2004.

EDITED VOLUME: HARRY POTTER FAN FICTION

Contributions are sought for a proposed collection of essays about
Harry Potter fan fiction.

Scholars from all disciplines are invited to submit abstracts or
completed essays. Essays on young writers, the transnational fandom,
and fan works from outside the English-speaking world are especially
needed, but all submissions are very welcome.
