Conference: Literatures in English
Place: Saint Olaf College, Northfield, MN 55057

We invite proposals for a Conference on Literatures in English to be
held at Saint Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, on June 6-9, 2007.
The conference will address, from the points of view of theory, themes,
curriculum and pedagogy, the multiple implications of the rise of global
literatures in English. For a full description of the conference, and

Paper proposals are requested for a one-day regional American Studies
colloquium intended to reflect and develop the vitality of the discipline in
the South West of England. Long an area with distinctive maritime, military,
ethnic and cultural connections to North America, the South West also contains
a number of HE institutions with well-established American Studies programmes
and expertise. The colloquium aims to bring together researchers from across
the region to present their current work, and to explore areas of potential
cross-institutional collaboration. The day will include an open-forum
discussion on the future of the discipline in UK Higher Education

This panel seeks papers on infotainment programs in the United States
before 1980 (essentially, before the launch of CNN in 1980 and MTV in 1981).

We shall use a broad conception of infotainment that includes
newspaper, magazine and other modes of textual nonfiction, and radio,
film, and both "Golden Age" and post-"Golden Age" television.

Adaptation: British Literature of the Nineteenth Century and Film
The recent surge of literature and film courses and use of film clips in the
classroom has led to an increase in studies on adaptation. By bringing
together many different approaches to the topic, this book will provide an
overview of the subject of the adaptation of nineteenth-century British works, as
well as examinations into the creation of adaptations and their use in the
