"Fan/tastic Visuals"

Panellists are being sought for a potential session to be submitted to
the 2006 International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts (ICFA),
March 15-19 at the Wyndham Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel, Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida. This panel will focus on fan art, photo
manipulation, video, web design, costuming, body modification, and other
visual methods of creativity/expression by speculative fiction fan
communities.

Acacia Group's 2006 Conference: Politicizing texts
The Acacia Group of California State University, Fullerton is seeking papers
for our 2006 conference to be held February 17 and 18, 2006. We are
interested in papers/presentations for the following suggested panel:
Power/Desire in Fiction
Is possession of power, or the possibility of wielding/using power affected
by desire? Do the powerful experience/fulfill/define desire? Do the powerful
depend on being desired, reject being the object of desire, or both?
We are accepting completed paper submissions only, no abstracts, please.

Imperfect Copies: Hybridity/Mimicry
As postcolonial theorist Homi Bhabha posits his idea of hybridity and
mimicry in The Location of Culture, inexact, or displaced doubling may create
parodies of social hegemonies that carry the potential to disrupt the naturalized
norms. How does the idea/practice of creating an imperfect copy function in
literature?
 

      Seeking papers on (1) critiques of current practices of
internationalization of American studies or on (2) topics concerning
¡ÈTranspacific¡É American studies for a panel at American Studies
Association conference to be held in Oakland, CA, October 12-16, 2006. The
panel is entitled Internationalization of American Studies and
¡ÈTranspacific¡É American. Also, I am seeking commentator and chair for this
proposed session.
      These few years the field of American Studies is undergoing a radical
transformation with respect to internationalization. However, despite the
admirable reciprocal exchange history, for example, of annually held

_Atlantikos_ is a new online journal published by graduate students in the
English Department at Michigan State University. We are now accepting
essays written by graduate students in the field of Transatlantic Studies,
broadly defined as the study of textual productions dating from the age of
exploration to the present that originate in Europe, Africa, and the
Americas. We encourage both traditional and innovative scholarship
addressing textual, critical, cultural, and theoretical issues related to
Transatlantic Studies. Comparative literatures are within the purview of the
journal, although submissions need not be comparative in nature. The journal
