Fantastical Constellations After Magical Realism research group (formerly known as Post-Magical Realist Worlds research group) of the Canadian Comparative Literature Association (CCLA) invites submissions to our session in the coming CCLA 2024 conference at the Canadian Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The College of Arts and Humanities at Bethune-Cookman University welcomes proposals for the annual Zora Neale Hurston Conference to be held virtually on February 15-16, 2024. Hip Hop Hurston recognizes the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop as well as Hurston’s celebration of African American vernacular and culture as a precursor to this movement.

You are invited to submit abstracts for individual or panel presentations on Hip-Hop, Zora Neale Hurston, or any of her multidisciplinary interests. Presentations can be scholarly, pedagogical, and/or creative and should not exceed 15 minutes. We are also interested in student panels.

Call for Essays: Ray Bradbury: A Companion

Even eleven years after his death, Ray Bradbury remains one of the most celebrated and significant twentieth century cultural figures. He worked in a variety of modes, genres, media, and places.  His is a lasting legacy of science, fantasy, wonder, and an optimism for the future.

As part of Peter Lang’s “Companion” series, the proposed volume is a collection of essays on Ray Bradbury, his life, works and cultural impact.

On February 16-17, 2024, the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies will host its biennial celebration of Popular Culture and the Deep Past (PCDP) at the Ohio State University, with ‘Let the Games Begin!: Sports and Pastimes in the Medieval and Renaissance Worlds.’ As in past years, this event will feature a scholarly conference (with papers, round tables, and keynote lecturesby prominent scholars who will discuss a range of entertainments in their cultural and social contexts) nested within a Renaissance-faire-like carnival (featuring exhibits, gaming, contests, live demonstrations, and activities of all kinds).

The Righteous Gemstones is a dark comedy about a world-famous megachurch pastor; his three children, who assist with the ministry; and various associates, extended family members, and antagonists.  Each season (2019, 2022, 2023) is self-contained and intricately structured, inviting scene by scene and even frame by frame analysis. Typically the family faces two interconnected outside threats; parallel father-son crises featuring patriarch Eli, his eldest son, and his grandchildren; parallel relationship crises involving the other children and their partners; and a disruptive force.

The Research Project “The Novel as Global Form. Poetic Challenges and Cross-border Literary Circulation” organizes its final conference and seeks paper proposals of scholars who are pursuing research on the contemporary novel from a global perspective, from any literary and linguistic tradition.

Call for the Participants for an Academic association for African literary studies in India

The deadline for submissions to Ink and Imagination has been extended to January 8th, 2024.

The Graduate Comics Organization (GCO) at the University of Florida now invites proposals to our 20th annual conference: "Ink and Imagination: Exploring Children's Comics." The conference will be held April 5-7, 2024. We welcome applicants from all stages of their careers to submit papers addressing any aspect of the conference topic. Independent scholars, as well as creative and community practitioners, are especially encouraged to apply.

CFP: “Intelligence,” Journal of the Midwest Modern Language Association (JMMLA), Spring 2024

The Journal of the Midwestern Modern Language Association invites submissions for a Spring 2024 special issue on the theme of “Intelligence.”

In 2021, as a consequence of the pandemic, schools and colleges across the country placed a temporary freeze on standardized testing, reinforcing doubts regarding the necessity and efficacy of such tests to assess intellectual potential. Soon thereafter, the November 30th 2022 launch of ChatGPT-3 elicited responses ranging from the apocalyptic (the software is a huge step toward artificial general intelligence) to the skeptical (the software is not and cannot be intelligent).

To promote excellence in Collaborative T&I research, the “International Center for Research on Collaborative Translation” rewards MA theses and PhD dissertations in English, French and Italian that make a significant professional/practical or academic contribution to the field of Collaborative Translation. 

The call is open to any student from any country. 

The winner will receive an honorarium of € 300 and a “Merit Diploma”. The Awards Ceremony to announce the winner will be celebrated in spring 2024 (the date of the Ceremony will be communicated).
