The University of South Carolina will host the 2006 Southern Regional
Conference of the American Conference for Irish Studies in Columbia, SC,
February 23-26, 2006. Special guests will include poets Eavan Boland and Vona
Groarke. Some sessions will be held in conjunction with the USC Women's
Studies conference on "Transnational Feminisms."

Panelists must join or rejoin NEMLA and register for the conference by
November 30, 2005

Testimonial Modernism

The deadline for interdisciplinary workshop proposals for "Attending to Early Modern Women--and Men" has been extended to October 6, 2005. We hope you are drafting a proposal!

While the keynote address and plenary speakers will concentrate on what
scholars of early modern women can learn from considering men and
masculinity, workshops may consider masculinity or CONTINUE PAST CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WOMEN AND GENDER. Workshops should, however, focus
on one of the plenary topics themselves: theorizing gender, childhood,
violence, and pedagogies.

Proposals should be postmarked OCTOBER 6, 2005. The conference convenes in College Park, MD, November 9-11, 2006.

This panel would provide a forum for book history research pertaining to
eighteenth century exploration narratives. Book history research continues
to be concerned with the physical properties of books and the material
conditions of their production, yet the field has expanded in recent years
to embrace the entire range of social conditions that may have influenced
the conception, writing, publication, and distribution of books. Recent

The Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities
Research invites abstracts that address the
relationship of visual culture to other forms of human
expression and thought. Presentations may address
aspects of image production and image reception in the
humanities, whether the image be printed, projected,
digitized, rendered artistically, imagined, or
destroyed. Topics may include exploration of pictorial
as opposed to written or oral expression; the ways in
which images may fill interstices in language, music,
and thought; the centrality of different forms of
picture making in human history, society, and culture.
