Medieval Disability: The body beyond the margins (Leeds, July 10-13th 2006).
 
Disability Studies, a field of inquiry rooted in disciplines as diverse as archaeology, history, literary studies and queer theory, has increasingly called for an intensified exanination of the history of disability: how it was perceived, what constituted "able-bodiedness" in different eras, the moral ramifications of disability, the growth of the culture of pity, etc. Medievalists have been slow to answer this call, despite the period's centrality in the formation of modern identities.

American Comparative Literature Association Annual Conference
Princeton University, March 23-26, 2006

ACLA 2006 will take place at Princeton University on March 23-26, 2006 (Thursday evening through Sunday noon). Hosted by the Department of Comparative Literature, along with other Departments and Programs in the humanities and the creative arts, the conference will focus on a central theme, The Human and Its Others.

MP feminist peer-reviewed biannual e-journal is seeking papers on the
subject of "CHOICE". The word choice has been used as a galvanizing point
concerning abortion, but the concept of the right to choose extends well
beyond the womb. Feminists argue over the kinds of choices we make...the
choice to be a stay at home mother or have a consuming career, the choice to
 marry or not to marry, the choice to be celibate or to be sexually
promiscuous, the choice to agree or disagree with feminist "party lines",
etc. We are seeking academic papers, personal narratives, creative writing,
or journalistic writings that wrestle with the idea of gender and choice in

In order to mark the centenary of Samuel Beckett=92s birth in 2006, =

requested for a new volume examining Beckett=92s relationship with =
Ireland.
Entitled Beckett and Ireland: New Perspectives, this volume will offer
readings of Beckett=92s work in a social, political, and cultural =
context.
Although many readings of Beckett=92s work tend to stress his preference =
for a
deterritorialised aesthetic, there have been a number of important =
recent
articles stressing Beckett=92s Irishness, and it is hoped that this =
collection
will build on such work in new and exciting ways. Possible topics might
