---UPDATED----
Marginalized groups may be contrary to the dominant culture within a society through their very own existence. In cultures where those who reinforce divisions may seek to ostracize the Other by portraying them in a negative light, counter-hegemonic representations of the marginalized can be revolutionary. This panel will examine how non-dominant cultures in contemporary literature are depicted in the context of the dominant.
Central questions include:
What makes something (e.g. an action, a person's/group's identity) within a dominant culture subversive?
What are the benefits and repercussions of acting against the collective conscience?
Chapter proposals are invited for Ecofeminist Drama: Environment, Gender, and Theatre. The editors of the book series Methuen Drama Agitations: Text, Politics and Performances, published by Bloomsbury, have expressed strong interest in publishing Ecofeminist Drama. Chapters on 21st-century drama and theatre are especially encouraged, and all proposals must have a strong ecofeminist perspective.

Our interdisciplinary conference is intended as a fitting opportunity for this reflection.

CFP: Migration, Adaptation and Memory
How do we remember and represent our migration experiences? Who is involved in these processes? How does history remember these events? What helps migrants and societies to adapt? The significance of these and related questions have made their way into our daily lives, from the refugee crisis to policy decisions, individual psychotherapy to (re)building identities, communities, and memories.
Piotr Alekseevich Kropotkin (1842-1921) was one of the most prominent advocates of anarchism during his adult life, but also a famous intellectual and activist in Europe and further afield. In this centenary year of his death, we welcome you to join us for a discussion about his legacy, influence and relevance today. This conference will discuss his life and his work, but also his afterlife. Since February 1921, the world has lived without Kropotkin, but in many ways his ideas and his legacy persist. This conference seeks to specify, debate, contest, and carry on that legacy.
A dark urban setting scattered with dots of light. Yellow gas flames shoot up against a glowing red horizon, creating an almost hellish feel. Flying cars pierce the atmosphere, revealing the orange smog haze that reappears in urban sequences throughout the movie. As the camera moves closer to futuristic, monumental buildings, cold white beams of light transition to interiors dominated by blue hues. Sequences in the Tyrell Corporation are marked by cool tones as opposed to Deckard’s warm-toned private spaces. How would we feel and think about a cult film like Blade Runner (1982) if cinematographic choices about color had been made differently?

Date: May 27-28, 2021
Growing out of two panels on access in higher education at the 2021 Modern Language Association's annual convention, this special journal issue will focus on the fundamental issues of access that plague American higher education. We will send the special issue proposal to several journals that take a radical approach to pedagogy in higher education.
We are pleased to announce our call for book proposals for the new Methuen Drama Agitations Series.
Please read below for more information and if interested, please contact one of the editors at the email below.
Theatre has always offered immediate responses to political, social, economic and cultural crisis events that are local, national and/or global in dimension, establishing itself as a prime medium of engagement.
On Feb. 2–4, 2022, The Huntington will host an onsite conference in San Marino, California to celebrate the publication centennial of James Joyce’s Ulysses. In tandem with the conference, The Huntington will host an exhibition on novels and maps from the 16th through the 20th century, including a newly acquired series of engraved maps derived from Ulysses, made by the artist David Lilburn.
Annulet: A Journal of Poetics seeks submissions of literary criticism for our second issue.
Among its meanings, "annulet" means a little ring. As a literary journal, we are committed to bringing into closer quarters poetry, poetics-driven prose, and public-facing scholarship and criticism.
