CALL FOR PAPERS

Prologues, Epilogues, Curtain-Raisers and Afterpieces: The Restoration and
Eighteenth Century

Edited By Judy Slagle and Daniel J. Ennis

Based on a successful panel at ASECS 2002, this collection will focus on
the hithertofore marginal parts of the London Stage=92s entertainments
during the long eighteenth century. We especially invite papers on the
materials that surrounded the theatrical =93mainpiece=94=96pantomimes,
farces, entr=92actes and the like.

This special issue on animation focuses on, but is by no means
limited to:

- Historical and contextual studies of specific animators or
animated films, traditions or styles

- Explorations of how new technologies are changing our
perception of animation as a distinct object or set of practices

Journal Issue: "Imagined Cities"
_genre_

_genre_ is the annual scholarly journal of the Comparative Literature and
Classics Department at California State University, Long Beach. It has
published 23 issues since the first volume in 1967. The theme for this
year's journal is "Imagined Cities."

Original essays are invited for a collection tentatively entitled “Rhetorics
of Place.”

The editors of this collection believe that the concept of “place” operates
at the crossroads of current social, political, economic, and environmental
issues. As educators we also believe that the exploration of “place”
provides the opportunity for bridging academic knowledge and students’
everyday experiences. With this in mind we encourage submissions from a
range of disciplines and perspectives in the hopes of developing a reader
designed to provide an interdisciplinary overview of the current discussions
concerning “place” for the college classroom.

Postcolonial Text is a peer-reviewed, open access journal which invites articles and
reviews, as well as poetry and fiction, on postcolonial, transnational,
and indigenous themes. It is one of a new generation of electronic
journals committed to publishing critical and creative voices within and
across disciplinary boundaries, edited by a team spanning three
continents, and backed by a highly regarded international editorial board
representing the best in postcolonial, cultural and literary studies.

The Edith Wharton Review invites scholars to submit essays for a special
issue, Edith Wharton and the Provocations of Philosophy. Essays should focus
on considerations of Wharton's extensive engagement with Western philosophy
and with various forms of philosophical writing; on treatments of her
writing in relation to the work of classical, French, or German philosophers
known to have been of interest to her; on her work's relationship to
pragmatism; on Wharton and the question of women and/in philosophy; or on
similar issues. A fuller acknowledgment or presentation of Wharton as an
intellectually and speculatively animated novelist will be one of the chief
objectives of this special issue.

Obsidian III: Black Literature in the African Diaspora invites essays, short
fiction, and poetry, for a special issue on Black British Literature. We invite
work that addresses a variety of the issues reflected in this burgeoning field
such as childhood, old age, memory, history, gender issues, and post
independence. We are also interested in innovative essays engaging critical
pedagogy in the field and issues of theory. We also welcome interviews with
major figures in the field and single or multiple author explorations.
Inquiries are welcome. Deadline for submission is January 20, 2004.
