Globalization is by many accounts the central crisis of our age. And in the
wake of postcolonial studies and the events of 9/11, literary studies has
made a definitive 'global turn.' But we have still only begun to examine the
myriad effects of globalization upon literary texts (broadly defined to
include prose fiction and non-fiction, drama, poetry, film, electronic
texts, and popular culture in all its forms).

CALL FOR PAPERS
2006 Film and History League Conference
"The Documentary Tradition" Dallas 8-12 November 2006
<http://www.filmandhistory.org>

AREA: World War I

Early film historian Terry Ramsaye once wrote that World War I "contributed
nothing whatever to the art of the motion picture." This call for papers
asks whether Ramsaye's dismissal was warranted or whether, like much of
World War I filmmaking, the production of newsreels, documentaries,
propaganda films, etc. had a much wider impact on international film
production and exhibition than previously considered.
