We invite submissions for a forthcoming book entitled "Multicultural
Literature and the New Educational Accountability: Challenges and
Opportunities." This book will highlight ways in which classroom teachers
and teacher educators continue to utilize multicultural children's and
young adult literature while addressing local, state and national
standards. Moreover, contributors to the volume will examine how teachers
balance the pressure for accountability (i.e., success on high-stakes
tests) with students' needs for culturally responsive pedagogy.

Collection of Essays: British Asian Fiction: Framing the Contemporary

The primary focus of this proposed collection is a multi-faceted
analysis of contemporary British-Asian fiction that will focus on
individual novels by the authors listed below.

The Caribbean Chapter of the College English Association (CEA-CC) plans to
publish the proceedings of its Spring 2005 conference on "Transgression and
Taboo." We are seeking an additional 5 papers to supplement this volume. We
are interested in essays that explore instances of the dialectics of
transgression and taboo in theoretical, poetical, fictional and dramatic
texts. Papers (15-20 pages) should follow MLA format and be sent
electronically in MS Word format to Vartan Messier, (CEA-CC President) at
vmessier_at_uprm.edu with "CEA - Transgression and Taboo publication" in the
subject line of the message by 10 June 2005.

in the Early Modern Period

Alan Bray’s _The Friend_ has sparked a great deal of
discussion about the ways in which same-sex alliances
fit within, and signify to, larger social, political,
or cultural formations. For a proposed panel at RSA
2006, in San Francisco, we invite papers that consider
same-sex associations and representations under the
shelter of, or in tension with, other allegiances: to
marriage, to patron, to genre, to nation, or to
politics, to name only a few possibilities.
