Hungry Words: Images of Famine in the Irish Canon

Abstracts of 500 words or essays of around 9,000 words are being solicited
for Hungry Words, an anthology which will examine representations of hunge=
r
or famine in the works of canonical Irish authors. The terms =B3famine=B2 and
=B3canonical=B2 are, of course, loaded ones in Irish studies, and it is my
particular desire to collect essays which question the various
manifestations of these terms in recent literary scholarship.

CALL FOR PAPERS (Collection)
Entries are invited for a proposed anthology on the subject of the =
television series, Gilmore Girls. Now in its fourth season, the series =
has achieved popular success on a fledgling network. It is also the =
first TV series "to make it to air supported by the Family Friendly =
Forum's script development fund. An initiative between some of the =
nation's top advertisers and The WB, the program is intended to offer a =
greater array of compelling family programming on network television" =
(www2.warnerbrothers.com). However, to date, little critical attention =
has been paid to the series.

_Samuel Beckett's Endgame_, ed. Mark S. Byron, Dialogue 1 (Amsterdam and
Atlanta: Rodopi Press). This book of essays is the first volume in a new
series announced by Rodopi Press under the general editorship of Michael
J. Meyer. This volume will offer new and experienced scholars the
opportunity to present alternative readings and approaches to Samuel
Beckett's _Endgame_. The goal of the collection is to establish a
dialogue between essays by younger scholars (MA, ABD, six years or less
from the PhD, Lecturer, Assistant Professor or equivalent) and by
established or expert scholars (Associate Professor, Professor or
equivalent, and who have published monographs and articles in leading

I am writing this to clarify some points concerning this proposed
project for a collection of critical writings on Asian Gothic
literature.=20
Firstly, a simplistic application of the Gothic to contemporary Asian
literature is discouraged. Although much Asian writing deals with issues
revolving around taboo, excess and transgression of various kinds, to
deem this as automatically Gothic would be uncritical.
Secondly, it is encouraged that a study of Gothic poetics and the way
they manifest itself in Asian text be undertaken. Some of the familiar
Gothic tropes like the repressed, the uncanny, the numinous, ghosts and
spectres, radical evil etc. can be explored, but again, with careful
