The department of Cinema, Television and Media Studies of IULM
University (Milan, Italy) is pleased to announce its Call for Papers for
a book on film remakes that will be published in mid-2005.

Provisionally titled "Ready Made. Film Remakes in Postmodern Times",
this interdisciplinary critical anthology will explore a range of topics
regarding the aesthetic, cultural, and social significance of remakes of
thriller, horror, and science fiction movies released after 1960. The
volume will be edited by and Matteo Bittanti and Rocco Moccagatta, both
film critics and researchers at the Libera Università di Lingue e
Comunicazione, Milan, Italy.

The Journal of the Midwest Modern Language Association welcomes submissions
for the Spring 2005 special issue on "Performance."

Topics might include:

     Nineteenth-Century Prose invites submissions for a special issue on writing
by T. B. Macaulay, scheduled for fall, 2006.

We hope for a wide range of topics and approaches regarding particular essays by
Macaulay, or the Critical and Historical Essays as a corpus, and/or his History
of England. His parliamentary and bureaucratic

texts, such as those concerning India, will also be considered suitable subject

NEW BOOK COLLECTION OF ESSAYS - PHILIP ROTH'S AMERICA

Recently I guest edited the 2004 annual volume of _Studies in American
Jewish Literature_, Vol. 23, one devoted exclusively to Philip Roth's most
recent fiction. I'm now wanting to develop this special issue into a book
collection of essays, and I'd like to include several brand new critical
works on this later phase of Roth's career. I'm particularly interested in
essays devoted to _Sabbath's Theater_, _The Dying Animal_ and (ESPECIALLY)
the brand new novel, _The Plot Against America_. Thematic/theoretical focus
on these novels is open.

The Hwa Kang Journal of TEFL is currently inviting papers for the =
upcoming 11th issue, to be published in print and online in May 2005. =
Deadline for papers is extended to February 15, 2005. Articles on any =
aspect of teaching English to non-English speaking college students are =
welcome. Articles on the use of literature to teach language are =
especially welcome.

1984 holds a unique position in the contemporary canon, because of its
accessibility to a wide range of students, its widespread effect on literary
and popular culture, and its very strong resonances with contemporary
events. For an edited collection, we are seeking articles based on close
description of student readings of this text, both to provoke more general
discussion on how varied students work with a single, commonly-taught text,
and how students in an increasingly Orwellian society read the book's social
and political content.
Articles from any pedagogical and theoretical perspectives are welcome, with

Facts On File, a New York publisher of reference books for schools and
libraries, is seeking a scholar to write a one-volume encyclopedia on
Gabriel Garcia Marquez , focusing on critical analyses of his works. The
ideal author will have a Ph.D., broad knowledge of Marquez's works, and an
ability to write clearly and succinctly for students in both high school
and college. This large project (250,000-300,000 words) must be completed
within two years. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines will be required.

Jesusland: An Issue (#72)

After the elections, comes the New Morality? That's the aim of the right-wing evangelicals who helped bring the Republican Party to power in the 2004 US elections. Beyond creating a third Bush administration, economic and religious conservatives now hold power in two branches of the federal government, control appointments to the judiciary, and dominate numerous state and local governments.

While J.R.R. Tolkien professed to dislike the works of William
Shakespeare, he was intimately familiar with many of the plays and was
arguably influenced in many ways by Shakespeare's writings. I am looking
for scholarly but accessible papers of 6,000 to 9,000 words on the topic
of Shakespeare's influence on Tolkien. This collection already includes
essays on themes from Macbeth in The Lord of the Rings, war and glory in
Henry V and The Lord of the Rings, the mythical function of forests and
trees, and catharsis in Tolkien and Shakespeare. Additional topics I
would like to include are the conception of elves for both authors,
Gollum and Caliban, the role of women, and women warriors. Other topics
