MALE BODIES IN GLOBAL CINEMA: CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

In recent years there has been a growing critical interest in the literary detective, and a number of recent studies have examined the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century sleuth from a variety of theoretical perspectives: Foucauldian, feminist, post-colonial and post-structuralist. Cultural historians examine the period and the detective in terms of empire, gender, social authority and scientific developments in criminology. Little is said of the relationship between late Victorian and Edwardian detective fiction in terms of style, the art of detection and the question of contemporary aesthetic theory.

conference on irresponsibility in literature. The
keynote and plenary speakers have now been confirmed:

J. Hillis Miller, former president of the Modern
Language Association, Emeritus Distinguished Professor
of English and Comparative Literature at University of
California, Irvine.

Shirley Chew, Emeritus Professor at the University of
Leeds, and Visiting Professor at NTU.

Call for Proposals
 
New Collection entitled _Understanding Plagiarism: Discussions for Students
and Teachers_
 
Eds. Anne Meade Stockdell-Giesler, Tracy Ann Morse, Rebecca Ingalls,
Michael Donnelly, and Joanna Castner
 

Editors of this new collection are interested in proposals for articles that
will fill a middle ground we find largely missing in the literature about
plagiarism, and that is a collection of scholarly discussions about the
intricacies of plagiarism for students.
 
Proposed topics may include, but are not limited to the following:

James Emanuel, Stanley Edgar Hyman, and four items from Amiri Baraka) to
have his papers housed in the Library of Congress. Composed for 4,000
items including manuscripts of unpublished writing and correspondence
with some of America's most important literary figures, this archive is
an untapped wealth of resources about one of modernisms most important
figures and stands as a document of Modernism itself.

with some of America's most important literary figures, this archive is
an untapped wealth of resources about one of modernisms most important
figures and stands as a document of Modernism itself.

Contributions are invited for a proposed collection of essays on Victorian women poets and marriage with
the working title Victorian Women Poets and the Problem of Marriage. Victorian female poets�
perspectives on the institution of marriage and on the problem of balancing the demands of marriage and
the artist�s life are important but have not been adequately explored. Of course, Elizabeth Barrett
Browning certainly raises precisely these issues in Aurora Leigh, but many other female poets of the
nineteenth century concerned themselves with these same issues and resolved them in different ways,
sometimes choosing not to marry (Christina Rossetti and Adelaide Proctor), sometimes marrying with
