Phenomenology: The Basic Concepts

Scholars in Progress is seeking speakers for our next session on March 9, 2021!

Our session will focus on how to make the most of a virtual conference, timed specifically to help graduate students get the most out of the NCSA virtual conference March 11-13.  We are hoping to structure the session around lightning talks where each speaker will present for 5-10 minutes before taking questions from participants.

Essays are invited for a forthcoming special issue of the Journal of World Literature on the theme of World Literature in and for Pandemic Times. Essays can discuss works that are set in plagues or epidemics (whether Covid-19 or earlier epidemics, real or fictional), or can discuss how we ourselves read under our current circumstances of lockdowns, widespread mortality, and the resulting social and economic disruptions.

Keystone DH is a network of institutions and practitioners committed to advancing collaborative scholarship in digital humanities research and pedagogy across the Mid-Atlantic. This year, the Keystone DH conference will be hosted virtually by Temple University’s Charles Library on July 15-16th, 2021.

For over twenty years, Ricky Gervais has entertained audiences with a brand of comedy all his own. The groundbreaking sitcom The Office pioneered the mockumentary genre and has influenced countless programs. Subsequent projects have continued to propel comedy into  new directions, forms, and platforms.

In this special issue of Alluvium, the Contemporary Theoretical Network (Ctrl Network) invites submissions on the topic of futurity in crisis.

The Television Studies session is open to all paper proposals that explore some aspect of Television Studies. Possible topics for proposals include: the analysis of a particular television show, explorations of the social functions of television, and the relationship between television shows and their audiences. We are also particularly interested in paper proposals that relate to the conference theme "City of God, City of Destruction."

The conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada between Thursday, November 11 and Sunday, November 14, at the Sahara Las Vegas Hotel. This session is currently scheduled to be held in-person.

The Alabama State University College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences invites proposals for the 2021 Research and Creative Activity Virtual Symposium, 2020: The Good and the Bad. The virtual project format addresses the needs for both safety and community. 2020 impacted us profoundly. Through the topics and the medium, this year’s RCA Virtual Symposium seeks to explore and honor that breadth and depth of our 2020 experience.

The Thematic Section

The theme chosen for issue 20 of Al-Kīmiyā, the Journal of the Faculty of Languages ​​and Translation (FdLT – Faculté de langues et de traduction) of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ – Université Saint-Joseph) is "Languages, Translation and Society".

MLA 2022 (January 6-9, Washington, DC): "Community-Engaged Pedagogies in the Literature Classroom," an official panel for the Forum on the Teaching of Literature. Panelists discuss teaching literature with community-engaged pedagogies. As they engage with content, students learn about social justice and broaden career paths. Educators discuss balancing experience and content, navigating power differentials, and establishing reciprocal partnerships.

The CLCS Renaissance/Early Modern forum of the MLA invites paper proposals for a guaranteed session at MLA 2022 (Washington, D.C., 6-9 January 2022).  We plan a panel on insurrection, tyranny, and resistance in a wide range of early modern contexts.  What political theories and literary traditions shape early modern writers’ understandings?  How do literary texts themselves respond to contemporary events, imagine alternative futures, and transform current conversations?  We particularly welcome comparative and transnational perspectives.  Please send 250-word abstracts and brief CVs to Penelope Anderson pea@indiana.edu by 20 March 2021.

This session is open to any proposal that explores the intersection of literature and some other art. However, in accordance with the conference theme "City of God, City of Destruction," we welcome papers that explore the cross-sections between literature and the other arts in connection to issues of the urban, cityscapes, the postmodern, noir, gothic, or religious spaces or architecture, or religious or spiritual painting or sculpture.
