This session explores the many surpluses of and in translation of Caribbean literatures and cultural practices. How does translation contribute to surplus value or surplus meaning in Caribbean contexts?

What makes us happy and content in our life? Some people may point to fabulous fame, fortune, or money. Some may say that the key to happiness are interpersonal relationships. But what if someone is alone? Is loneliness really disastrous? Are there any benefits of loneliness? Can loneliness become an epidemic? In order to answer such questions, during our conference we will have to concentrate on many particular issues.
As director Alain Kassanda points out, "the restitution of films should start with access to film archives from the colonial era. Furthermore, Africans do not have access to the pioneering works of cinema produced by the continent's filmmakers: the holding of distribution rights outside of African countries, in Europe and the United States, is one of the reasons for this situation. The vast majority of African film collections, consisting of ethnographic, classic and contemporary films, are held in France and the United States.
The last few years has given education a great insight into its own practices. Between online classrooms during the pandemic and the rapid emergence of more and more powerful technologies, we educators have seen a growing need to reevaluate our classrooms, as well as work with new tech to enhance these learning environments.

Instrumental curricula focus on direct, concrete, and explicit causal and quantifiable relationships between programs of study and reductive interpretations of the demands of society and the labor market. Within this broadly appealing system, STEM education and professional programs effortlessly justify their value as essential in any formal educational environment. Although societies and labor markets consistently assert the critical importance of and urgent need for people equipped with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions derived from humanistic education, instrumental systems frequently relegate the humanities to a secondary position of positive complementarity, worthy of investment solely when time and budget constraints permit.
We invite proposals for presentations that analyze Hispanic literary or film texts that critically examine interfaces, interrelations, and/or interactions between technology and humanity to analyze the roles or perceived values of humanity and technology in social contexts, and to interrogate socioeconomic and sociocultural value systems and aspirations. The Society of Nineteenth Century Historians, in partnership with the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Augusta University, presents the 31st annual Symposium on the 19th Century Press, the Civil War, and Free Expression. The Society invites submissions dealing with any aspect of the US mass media of the 19th century, including the Civil War in fiction and history, freedom of expression in the 19th century, presidents and the 19th century press, the African American and immigrant press, sensationalism and crime in 19th century newspapers, and coverage of 19th century spiritualism and ghost stories.

Due in part to well-publicised advancements in generative AI technologies such as GPT-4, there has been a recent explosion of interest in – and hype around – Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. Whether this hype cycle continues to grow or fades away, AI is anticipated to have significant repercussions for fandom (Lamerichs 2018), and is already inspiring polarised reactions. Fan artists have been candid about using creative AI tools like Midjourney and DALL-E to generate fan art, while fanfiction writers have been using ChatGPT to generate stories and share them online (there are 470 works citing the use of these tools on AO3 and 20 on FanFiction.net at the time of writing).
The concept of virtual worlds, while not new, has become a normalized part of 21st-century consciousness. Once a realm reserved for playful escape, “dissolv[ing] the constraints of the anchored world so that we can lift anchor—not to drift aimlessly without point, but to explore anchorage in ever-new places” (Heim, 1993), virtual spaces have taken center stage in our everyday lives. Our meeting places, our workplaces, our places of learning, even the places where we unite to break bread have shifted from the physical realm to the virtual. Children in particular have felt the seismic cultural shift from in-person to virtual interaction, as it has fundamentally changed the way they play, learn, and grow.
Educational Dimension is a Diamond Open Access peer-reviewed journal that publishes research papers, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses on all aspects of education, learning, and training. We are interested in submissions that explore the latest theories and technologies in education, as well as the philosophical and social implications of education.
