Scholars across the disciplines are pleased to announce the formation of The
Levinas Society. Inspired by Lithuanian-born Jewish philosopher and Talmudic
commentator Emmanuel Levinas (1906-1995) and contemporary Levinas scholarship,
we propose developing a formal society to coordinate and enhance critical work
and collaboration across the academic disciplines. The goal of this society is
to facilitate a broad and dynamic community of persons working toward effecting
the ethical in political, feminist, religious, critical, literary, pedagogical
and philosophical realms.

Postcolonialism, and Their Convergence in Contemporary Globalization,"
seminar at the 2006 ACLA: American Comparative Literature Association
Annual Conference, Princeton University, March 23-26, 2006. The goal of this seminar is to reflect upon the
dehumanizing and uprooting capacity of language through the concept of
"exapropriation," a term coined by Derrida in his later works. The term
exappropriation, when applied to language, expresses the double move of how

The Acacia Group of California State University, Fullerton is seeking
papers for our 2006 conference to be held February 17th and 18th,
2006. We are interested papers/presentations for the following
suggested panel:

Lifewriting Annual seeks critical and scholarly essays on lifewriting in
all its forms -- biography, autobiography, memoir, journals, diaries, and
works in other media. We are particularly interested in articles describing
and assessing scholarly resources for biographical writing, especially
collections of manuscripts and letters. We welcome hybrid essays combining
one or more lifewriting genres, e.g., memoir and biography, for a section
called "Crossings." We are also looking for reviews of recently published
biographies, autobiographies, and other works of lifewriting. Submissions
may treat works in any language or period, but must be written in English.

Deadline for 2006 issue: January 15, 2006.

We are calling for papers which treat the challenges and opportunities of
teaching language and literature from a Judeo-Christian perspective in a
college or university community. Especially welcome are papers which treat
this topic in a secular setting. Selected papers will be read at the
National Faculty Leadership Conference held June 22-25, 2006 in the
Washington, D. C. area.
 
Titles with abstracts of 300-400 words should be e-mailed as an attachment
to eng_dnh_at_shsu.edu by February 15, 2006. Contributors will be notified of
acceptance by April 1, 2006.
