Dear ARM Members and Friends,

ARM's 9th annual conference on "Mothering, Race, Culture, Ethnicity and
Class" featured a full day on Aboriginal Mothering. Truly a first! ARM
Press will be publishing a book on this topic, developed from the
conference.

The book will be edited by Jeanette Corbiere Lavell and Dawn Memee
Lavell-Harvard. (Bios included below)

We are still seeking chapters for this book, particularly in the area of
literature, popular culture, and history. As well, we are particularly
interested
in receiving submissions from perspectives other than 'North American."

In keeping with the 2006 conference theme, "Cultural Roundup", the 2006
Regular Session on Australasian Literatures at SCMLA will focus on
"Australasian Crossings"{ and explore the ways in which various cultural
traditions have cross-fertilized, interconnected, and come into conflict
in the Australian and South Pacific regions. Topics include, but are not
limited to: Christianity and its articulation in Australasia; migrant or
expatriate writers; New Zealand emigre writers in Australia (Jean
Devanny, Douglas Stewart, Stephen Oliver); gender, sexuality, and
cross-cultural relations; indigenous Australian texts; Maori texts in
either English or indigenous languages and their relation to other

Subjectivity and Community in Ethnic American Women's Memoir

Revised due date.

Papers may analyze how Ethnic American women use memoir to claim
subjectivity and join communities. Papers could explore how writers use
memoir to achieve self-actualization; claim subjectivity; and reconcile
their personal and community identities. Papers could also explore how
Ethnic American women manipulate conventional narrative forms (i.e., slave
narratives, travel narratives, and the autobiographical novel) to claim
subjectivity and to gain access to both the publishing community and
mainstream American society.

POSTCOLONIALITY AND BLACKNESS

Callaloo seeks creative and multi-disciplinary critical submissions for a
special issue on "postcoloniality and blackness." For this issue, we are
interested in looking comparatively at the uneven postcolonial situation of
black peoples and cultures in the 21st century. We seek to explore the
diverse material and political circumstances of black postcolonials, and the
limitations of current postcolonial theorizing for the black experience.

In his book REINVENTING COMICS, Scott McCloud explores some of the problems
concerning ethnicity and comics. Not only does he argue for an increased
awareness of ethnic and gender representation in contemporary comics, but he
also highlights many of the ethnoracial concerns underlying the history of
comics in the United States. Using McCloud's arguments as a springboard,
