How The West Was Won: New Perspectives on Transnational East Asian Cinema

With the success of Hero, Ringu (and its Hollywood remake), Oldboy and Ong-Bak in the west, contemporary East Asian cinema has transcended geographical, cultural and theoretical boundaries. The articles in this collection will examine films from the Far East and their transnational consumption as an ever changing process, presenting new perspectives that contest existing frameworks in film studies.

Native American Literature.

Conrad and the Orient_. We are seeking innovative and challenging essays
addressing topics relating to Conrad and the Oriental world in its
geographical breadth and cultural diversity. Comparative and
interdisciplinary approaches are welcome.

Subjects include (but are not limited to):

- Representation of the Orientals (the Arabs, Chinese, Malays.) and Conrad's
relation to the discourse of Barbarism

Papers (between 6000 to 8000 words in 12 pts Times New Roman fonts) are currently being invited for the next 2005 Edition of IRCALC African Literary Journal ALJ. Critical perspectives have dwelt on new and existing African writing, transcriptions of African oral literatures, including writings of the diaspora.
 
While writers and participants have come mainly from the United States, Nigeria, South Africa, India, and a few other commonwealth countries, the board of editors currently wishes to have more contributions from across the Cameroons, Mauritania, Ghana, Guinea, which would include all Francophone and Lusophone countries in upcoming editions.

The editors of this proposed volume are now seeking
interdisciplinary/theoretical and ethnographic papers for a collection of
essays addressing contemporary Japanese cultural practices. The unifying
theme of the essays is to examine different performance modes within Japan.
This will include essays of 4000 to 8000 words on Theatre, Music and Dance,
and also performance in the broadest sense as suggested by the field of
Performance Studies. Additional topics might include:

"Ireland and Europe in the 20th century"

The interdisciplinary peer-reviewed French journal Etudes Irlandaises
invites submissions for a special issue, "Ireland and Europe in the
20th century", to be published at the end of 2005. The guest editors
are Christophe Gillissen (Paris, Sorbonne) and Stéphane Jousni
(University of Rennes 2, France).

The links between Ireland and Europe can be studied from various
angles, be they literary, historical, political, linguistic or
