Special Issue: Mississippi Quarterly
American Indian Literatures and Cultures in the South
Mississippi Quarterly invites submissions for a special issue on
American Indian literatures and cultures in the South to be published
late in 2006. Critical and historical essays on any genre or period will
be considered.
Completed essays of no more than 10,000 words should be submitted by
Jan. 30, 2006.
Email submissions (Microsoft Word or Richtext only) are preferred.
Essays should follow the MLA Handbook (6th ed.).

The second "Scottish Renaissance" which is often said to have begun with
the publication of Lanark and which reached a high point with the
publication of Trainspotting appears to have reached a new stage
following devolution and the establishment of Scotland's first parliament
in nearly three hundred years. Scotland's recently changed political
situation suggests a number of questions regarding the present and future
of contemporary Scottish fiction. Has devolution changed the implied role
of the Scottish fiction writer and the reception of and/or market for
contemporary Scottish fiction? What part, if any, does recent Scottish
fiction play in the forming, or questioning, of a national political

the Centre for African Studies and published bi-annually online. postamble is
committed to featuring original post graduate student work of a high academic
standard which is of value to the promotion of multi-disciplinary study of
Africa within the university environment.
SYNOPTIQUE, the online journal of film and film studies, is seeking
contributions for Edition 10, Summer 2005. Synoptique 10 will be devoted to a
range of issues in contemporary Asian cinema and media: the following list
represents suggested topics only. Additional proposals for essays, interviews,

This proposed panel will focus on Ethnic American Women's Memoir from any
period. Papers may analyze how Ethnic American women use memoir to claim
subjectivity and join communities. Papers could explore how writers use

Cinema at the upcoming Modern Language Association (North East) conference in
Philadelphia, March 2-5, 2006. This panel will explore the Black American
presence in European cinema and Black Europeans in film, contrasting the
representation of the American expatriate experience with the representation of
Black communities in Europe.

Deadline for abstracts of critical papers for a collection of essays titled Out of Line: Women Writers of Color Writing the Prose Poem has been extended to August 1, 2005.
We invite submissions for a forthcoming book entitled "Multicultural
Literature and the New Educational Accountability: Challenges and
Opportunities." This book will highlight ways in which classroom teachers
and teacher educators continue to utilize multicultural children's and
young adult literature while addressing local, state and national
standards. Moreover, contributors to the volume will examine how teachers
balance the pressure for accountability (i.e., success on high-stakes
tests) with students' needs for culturally responsive pedagogy.
