Acacia Group's 2006 Conference: Politicizing Texts
The Acacia Group of California State University, Fullerton is seeking
papers for our 2006 conference to be held February 17th and 18th,
2006. We are interested papers/presentations for the following
suggested panel:
Trash Cinema: A Primer for Beginners (collection)

CALL FOR PAPERS: Collection of critical essays on trash cinema
We invite submissions for a critical anthology about the ever-expanding
world of national and international trash cinema.
As fans of trash cinema, while we do like to think of the form as being
utterly anti- or counter- "mainstream" cinema, in the ways it challenges
or reworks many of its assumptions, we are amazed at how many trash
favorites (both personal and more perennial, if such a thing exists)
have a striking formal similarity to - as well as an appeal for devotees
of - the "traditional" film canon's fare.

"Michael Arnzen: New Directions in Horror" attempts to define the impact of
new media on popular literature by exploring multiple award-winning author
Dr. Arnzen's literary experiments producing horror for such media as palm
pilots, email, electronic texts and his Stoker award winning website, The
Goreletter (as well as traditional print forms). Dr. Arnzen has already
agreed to act as a respondent.

We are soliciting contributions for an anthology which will address the ways in
which history and memory have been (re)presented and reconstructed in cinema –
encompassing both fictional and non-fictional – narratives. The book will
explore how binaries between fact and fiction, truth and fantasy, and the
public and the private have become blurred.

QUARTERLY REVIEW OF FILM AND VIDEO
The editors of Quarterly Review of Film and Video seek submissions of
manuscripts in film, video, and moving image studies. QRFV is devoted to
providing innovative perspectives from a broad range of methodologies,
including writings on newly developing technologies, as well as essays
and interviews in any area of film history, production, reception and
criticism.
We are particularly interested in essays on video games and video
installations, and postmodern examinations of images in popular culture
and the video arts that intersect with film/video.
The "Continuum Companion to Sound in Film and the Visual Media"
(Continuum) requires a well-informed piece as follows:
"Sound/music in Hong Kong Cinema"
Chapter: 4000-5000 words in length.
Deadline: c.end of 2005.

Southern Exposure: Analyzing the U.S. South through Film
CFP: Critics often cite D. W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation as the
origin of the Hollywood feature film and credit it with helping to
form the Hollywood narrative style. However, the film also marks the
importance of the U.S. southern setting in shaping the American
cinematic imagination. Griffith's film raises the broad issues of
war, tragedy, and romance, but also depicts the more disturbing
issues that continue to be associated with the filmic south: racial
and sexual violence, slavery, vigilante justice, and lynching.
The War Body on Screen

This proposal, for an edited collection of =91new=92 essays on the war =20=
body on screen, emerges from what the editors see as a new (post =20
9/11) concern for bringing into view the troubling image of the =20
ruined body, or the body that is absent from vision (as in dead and =20
gone, or captive and hidden). The corporeal figure of the suicide =20
bomber, the hostage, the soldier, the terrorist, and the innocent =20
victim, appear as cultural and ideological vehicles of meaning for =20
the way one is meant to understand conflict, war and terror in the =20
modern age.
