We are delighted to welcome you to the Fifth International Language-for-All Conference (LfAC’26), which will take place on October 22–23, 2026, at Çukurova University in Adana, Türkiye.

Centred on the theme “Social Justice: Language, Equity, Voice, and Empowerment,” the conference brings together scholars, educators, and practitioners working in language education, linguistics, literary studies, translation and interpretation studies, and cultural studies to examine how linguistic, literary, and cultural practices relate to questions of power, knowledge, ideology, and social inequality. 

The following is a cfp for a roundtable session at the forthcoming PAMLA 2026 conference to be hosted in Seattle, Washington, U.S. from Nov 12-15, 2026.

This roundtable invites scholars across the disciplines and different stages in their academic career with an interest in horror to undertake critical investigations into specifically male-centered horror media. By “male-centered,” I am referring to texts that spotlight male identity and the male body, cis-, queer, and trans- included, as sites of fear and monstrosity.

About the Volume

The body in literature is never neutral; it is a site where power is exercised, identities are shaped, and social meanings are constantly negotiated. Rather than viewing the body as a purely biological entity, literary texts reveal it as something produced through cultural norms, political structures, and ideological forces. This edited volume, Body Politics in Literature, aims to investigate how writers across different periods and traditions represent the body as a space of control, conflict, and transformation.

How do we study reading practices of the modernist era? After the development of what Richard Altick (1957) famously called the “democracy of print” in the nineteenth century, and the move toward mass literacy in the Anglophone world, how did  the act of reading and readership get transformed? Virginia Woolf’s 1926 essay, “How Should One Read a Book?” called reading the “most arduous and exhausting of occupations” and made the case for a discerning reader who would give the writer the “benefit of every doubt.” While the modernist era championed close reading with the evolution of New Criticism and I.A.

This seminar is interested in non-anthropocentric or even anti-anthropocentric understandings of gender-sexuality arrived at through transdisciplinary conversations between feminist theory, queer studies, the philosophy of biology, multispecies ethnography and environmental humanities. It posits that such understandings can emerge as accurate and effective translation practices across the material-semiotic continuum of multispecies worldmaking. In addition, it argues for aesthetic and affective valuations of multispecies desires, intimacies and sociosexual infrastructures.
