International Research in Children’s Literature

The International Research Society for Children’s Literature (IRSCL) was
established in 1970 and is a leading association for scholars of
children’s literature. The study of children’s literature is increasingly
being recognised as an integral part of literary studies, and the rapid
expansion of the subject area highlights the need for a scholarly journal
that is international in scope. Following our announcement at IRSCL’s
18th Biennial Congress in Kyoto, we are now inviting submissions for the
inaugural issues of International Research in Children’s Literature.

Specs is a journal of contemporary culture and arts at Rollins College.

Specs aims to create sympathetic interfaces between artistic and critical
practices. The journal invokes the spirit of John Dewey, for whom thinking
begins in flux, in the "peculiar combination of the understood and
nonunderstood."

The editors invite submissions of critical and/or creative work for both
the print and web issue, including critical articles, fiction, non-fiction
(of up to 6000 works), poetry (3-5 poems) and artwork.

We invite papers for a panel on Food and the Literary Imagination for the
39th annual meeting of the CEA. The conference theme is “Passages,” and
some suggested topics for this panel are aspects of food in regard to
travel, rites of passage, heroic quests, mythic journeys, coming-of-age,
and so forth. Discussion may include fiction, non- fiction, poetry, drama,
or film.

Proposals should be submitted via the online database at

Fat Studies is becoming an interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary field of
study that confronts and critiques cultural constraints against notions
of “fatness” and “the fat body”; explores fat bodies as they live in, are
shaped by, and remake the world; and creates paradigms for the development
of fat acceptance or celebration within mass culture.

We invite papers on Trauma and Literature for the 39th annual meeting of
the CEA. While human suffering has been a subject of literature from its
earliest time, modern understanding of trauma, including its
manifestations and the human response to them, offers a more thorough
understanding of these texts than has historically been available to the
critic.

ATHE 2008's conference theme "Difficult Dialogues: Theatre and the Art of

CALL FOR PAPERS

The 16th annual Midwestern Conference on Literature, Language, and Media
(MCLLM) will be held February 29 and March 1, 2008, at Northern Illinois
University in DeKalb, Illinois, to coincide with African American History
Month and Women's History Month.

Confirmed keynote speakers: David Bevington (of the University of
Chicago) on race and gender in Shakespeare, and Russ Castronovo (of the
University of Wisconsin at Madison) on American and African American
history including the military-industrial complex.

Proposals are solicited for fifteen- to twenty-minute papers from
scholars at all career stages, from beginning graduate students to
established and senior scholars.
