The Northeast Popular/American Culture Association (NEPCA) Fans, Fandoms, and Celebrity Studies Area invites presentation submissions for NEPCA’s hybrid conference to be held October 12 – October 14, 2023 in-person at Nichols College and virtually, via the Zoom platform.

This area encourages submissions that focus on interrogating the ideas and the ideals of fans and fandoms, and why we idolize celebrities. We welcome submissions from all theoretical and philosophical perspectives. We are open to submissions in any area of fan and celebrity studies including but not limited to:

The Illinois Medieval Association invites proposals for individual papers and especially full sessions for the 40th Annual Illinois Medieval Association Symposium, to be held online throughout the academic year. Papers presented at the Symposium are eligible for submission to our peer-reviewed proceedings volume, Essays in Medieval Studies, published annually by the West Virginia University Press and available via Project Muse. The Symposium aims to engage all disciplines and geographical areas of medieval studies.

Poetry is a constant, being produced by all known civilisations from ancient to modern times. Throughout its extensive history, the individual art of high emotions sublimated into perfect language has approached a vast array of subject matters, including love, war, social issues, the beauty of nature, etc. A particular exercise of the mind and soul, and a unique way of apprehending reality, poetry is a self-sufficient universe that intensifies and enlarges life experience. Pointing to inner knowledge rather than real circumstance, it activates different layers of perception, sweeps away human thoughts, feeds emotions and soothes suffering.

Call for Presentations – The Solarpunk Conference 2023: Imagine, Act, Thrive

Solarpunk is a new genre of speculative science fiction art, literature, and media, as well as a growing social movement. Solarpunk portrays a vision of an accessible, equitable world either without systemic barriers, or with those barriers in the process of disassembly, while championing intersectional social and climate justice. Drawing on ideas from permaculture, post- and trans-humanism, social ecology, and anarcho-socialism, while reacting against late stage capitalism, Solarpunk declares that our world is worth saving, and that saving it is possible.

The Women of Color in the Academy Conference brings together women of color and their allies for a variety of interactive hands-on workshops and networking opportunities. This year's hybrid conference will be held on Friday, May 19, and can be attended remotely or on the Boston campus of Northeastern University.

The theme of this year's conference, "Community as Rebellion," is inspired by Professor Lorgia García Peña's book of the same name. We are honored to welcome Professor Peña as the keynote speaker.

The Technical Rhetoric Symposium is pleased to announce its second annual conference, to be held virtually on June 3, 2023.

We invite researchers and practitioners in all fields to submit papers for presentation at the conference. Graduate students and early-career scholars are especially encouraged to apply!

The theme of this year's symposium is "Effective Communication in the Digital Age." We are particularly interested in presentations that explore the challenges and opportunities of communicating technical information in the digital world, and that offer practical solutions for addressing these challenges. In the aftermath of the World Wars, the concept of disability gained momentum. It was observed that the individuals with disability were subjected to segregation and isolation. However, by the advent of 21st Century, this mindset transitioned from the ‘medical model’ to the ‘social model’ which elevated the positioning of the ‘disabled subject’ from the margins to the forefront. This ‘social model’ further envisaged the inclusion of various discourses such as art, literature, psychology, law, science and health.

Our Keynote Speakers:

The Hospital for the Maintenance and Education of Exposed and Deserted Young Children was established in 1739.  It was the ‘darling project’ of Thomas Coram who saw the need to care for infants when their parents were unable to.  The Hospital underwent great changes between 1739 when its opening was a watershed event in British child welfare and 1954 when it ended its practice of institutional care.  This conference aims to bring together the global community of Foundling Hospital researchers for the first time to discuss all aspects of the charity’s history, and stimulate new avenues of investigation in the institution’s archives.
