Poetry of the Last Two Decades

Following weeks of intensive deliberations and the decision of the IRCALC board to expand the scope and readership of the journal on new Nigerian poetry, the editorial board has approved three broad themes in the upcoming edition of the New Nigerian Poetry journal project.

The project will enjoy the initial sponsorship of Progeny International even as more participants are welcome to join the efforts to sustain the emerging virile national literatures of Africa.

The <Langston Hughes Review> is now accepting papers for a
special issue, "Langston Hughes: Writer without Borders"
Papers that treat Hughes as part of a global conversation:
Ideology , Aesthetics, Economics, Color, Class, and Sex,
Language and Translation are welcomed.

APPROACHES TO TEACHING POE'S PROSE AND POETRY

The editors of the MLA Approaches to Teaching Poe's Prose and Poetry seek
1-2 page proposals for possible inclusions. Possible topics include, but

CFP: Robert Frost encyclopedia (no deadline; book)

Facts On File, a New York publisher of reference books for schools and
libraries, is seeking a scholar to write a one-volume encyclopedia on the
life and works of Robert Frost. The ideal author will have a Ph.D., broad
knowledge of Frost's poems, and an ability to write clearly and succinctly
for students in both high school and college. This large project
(250,000-300,000 words) must be completed within two years. Demonstrated
ability to meet deadlines will be required. If interested please send letter

CFP: DLB American Poets of the 21st Century (deadline various; collection)

I am seeking contributors for The Dictionary of Literary Biography volume on
"American Poets of the 21st Century," a reference work about poets and their
lives and careers. The series is widely available in libraries and if you
are unfamiliar with the series, I suggest you look at the volumes concerning
American Poets since World War II, edited by R.S. Gwynn and Joseph Conte to
give you an idea of the format. You should also consult the web site of the

By June 2004, I plan to finish editing a journal issue on African American
Poetry and Internationalism, which will have a special focus on the period of
the sixties and seventies, and the Heritage Series of Black Poetry published by
Paul Breman. I would welcome the opportunity to read a small number of
additional articles relating to British-American intersections of poetry publication
during this period, or poets whose work appeared in the Heritage Series,
especially Russell Atkins, Lloyd Addison, Ellease Southerland (Ebele Oseye), James
W. Thompson, Clarence Major, Mukhtarr Mustapha, Ray Durem, Sebastian Clarke
(Amon Saba Saakana), Eseoghene (Lindsay Barrett), Ronald L. Fair, and Samuel W.

STYLE is a journal of poetics and stylistics. Its primary editorial
focus is on the language of literature. The journal also has a secondary
focus on the history of literary and rhetorical criticism and theory.
STYLE aims to review new publications pertinent to these concerns.

Reviews vary in length from 1500 to 2500 words. With volume 38 (2004),
STYLE will introduce a new booknotes format, running from 500 to 1000

We are seeking previously unpublished critical essays for Mantis 4, under
the broad theme of "Poetry and Politics."

Mantis is a journal of contemporary poetry, poetry translation and poetry
criticism. A forum for writers coming from a broad spectrum of
