Papers are being solicited on what John Ashbery once nicknamed the "soi-disant Tulsa School," including Ted Berrigan, Ron Padgett, Joe Brainard, and Dick Gallup—who met in Tulsa in the early 1960s and later moved to New York City. They shaped and were shaped by the artistic and literary milieu of that time and place and became integral parts of The New York School.

Call for Papers or Abstracts for inclusion in an edited collection.
ICFA 31:Call for Papers. The 31st International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts will be held March 17-21, 2010, at the Orlando Airport Marriott in Orlando, Florida. The theme for 2010 is "Race and the Fantastic." Papers are invited that explore this diverse topic. We especially welcome papers on the work of Nalo Hopkinson (Guest of Honor), Laurence Yep (Guest of Honor), and Takayuki Tatsumi (Guest Scholar). As always, we also welcome proposals for individual papers and for academic sessions and panels on any aspect of the fantastic in any media. The deadline is October 31, 2009.
Chicana/o Literature, Film, Culture
The Southwest/Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Associations will hold their 31st annual meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, February 10 through 13, 2010. The organizations have met there for several years, and members wanted to return because of the great location, the fine hotels, food, sights, museums, and more. Albuquerque is the home of the National Hispanic Cultural Center, which promises research and entertainment possibilities.

This research conference seeks to explore issues of intimacy and love within the context of persons and interpersonal relationships and across a range of critical, contextual and cultural perspectives. This call for papers is seeking submissions for Unity Institute's Lyceum 2009 - "Science and Religion: An Evolving Dialogue", September 30-October 3, 2009.
Theologians, ethicists, philosophers, and other students of religion are encouraged to submit papers. We are also interested in receiving papers for Lyceum 2009 by scientists and social scientists. Considerable thematic leeway will be allowed for high-quality, innovative work related to the main theme. Deadline for submissions of abstracts is June 30, 2009. Authors will be notified of acceptance by July 15, 2009.
Quality academic presentations by graduate students will also be considered.

Localizing Shakespeare in Asia
Seminar for the 2009 BSA at King's College London (9/11-13/2009)
Although each Asian community has its own theatrical tradition, Shakespeare is probably the most read, studied, and performed single playwright in Asia. On the one hand, Shakespeare's manifold presence exerts enormous influence: he is incorporated into formal education of English, translated and transformed on stage, and popularized by comic books and animation. On the other hand, Asia - both as a treasury of literature and art and as an emerging superpower - also informs Shakespeare scholarship and performance in the West. This seminar aims at exploring the intricate relations between Shakespeare and Asia.
