CFP: POSTCOLONIAL CREATURES (deadline 8/1/2006; 17/3/2006)

Fanon)

Postcolonial Creatures, a one-day colloquium at the Faculty of English,
University of Cambridge, on the 17th March 2006, seeks to interrogate the
dynamics of dehumanization and re-humanization in the colonies, the
post-colonies and the (so-called) developing world through the lenses of
postcolonial literature and postcolonial theory.

_Atlantikos_ is a new online journal published by graduate students in the
English Department at Michigan State University. We are now accepting
essays written by graduate students in the field of Transatlantic Studies,
broadly defined as the study of textual productions dating from the age of
exploration to the present that originate in Europe, Africa, and the
Americas. We encourage both traditional and innovative scholarship
addressing textual, critical, cultural, and theoretical issues related to
Transatlantic Studies. Comparative literatures are within the purview of the
journal, although submissions need not be comparative in nature. The journal

"Australasian Crossings"{ and explore the ways in which various cultural
traditions have cross-fertilized, interconnected, and come into conflict
in the Australian and South Pacific regions. Topics include, but are not
limited to: Christianity and its articulation in Australasia; migrant or
expatriate writers; New Zealand emigre writers in Australia (Jean
Devanny, Douglas Stewart, Stephen Oliver); gender, sexuality, and
cross-cultural relations; indigenous Australian texts; Maori texts in
either English or indigenous languages and their relation to other

Aims of the Conference

Call for papers: "Exappropriating the Human: Tele-technologies,
Postcolonialism, and Their Convergence in Contemporary Globalization,"
seminar at the 2006 ACLA: American Comparative Literature Association
Annual Conference, Princeton University, March 23-26, 2006. The goal of this seminar is to reflect upon the
dehumanizing and uprooting capacity of language through the concept of
"exapropriation," a term coined by Derrida in his later works. The term
exappropriation, when applied to language, expresses the double move of how
language puts the human in place (hands it the qualities that are proper to it, appropriation) and at the same time
