Shakespeare Bulletin, a journal for the study of renaissance drama in
performance, published by the Johns Hopkins University Press, is pleased
to announce workshop titles for the RENAISSANCE DRAMA IN ACTION
conference, to be held November 8-12, 2006 on the University of Toronto
campus.
 
RENAISSANCE DRAMA IN ACTION will give scholars interested in performance
an opportunity to grapple with the practical realities of moving from
the page to the stage. Conference participants will sign up for a
rehearsal-and-performance workshop. Each workshop will focus on a
single scene from a play, one which exemplifies particular problems,
challenges, and/or rewards involved in staging renaissance drama.

The Ritual and Rhetoric of Queenship, 1250-1650

The deadline for proposals and the duration of this interdisciplinary
conference which aims to explore the ritual and rhetoric of queenship in late
medieval and early modern England have been extended.

We hope to encourage debate on the image and representation of queens in a
variety of genres, and on the cultural and political narratives of queenship.

Topics might include but are not limited to:

the representation of queens in early modern drama;

texts and textiles produced by queens;

The 2006 Ohio Shakespeare Conference will be held on the campus of
Marietta College this coming November 9th-11th. The theme of this
year's meeting will be "Violently Shakespeare." As is always the case
with the OSC, papers that thoughtfully employ any theoretical approach
are welcome. We are posting here on the Penn CFP early in the hope that
you'll consider us when putting together your travel schedule for next
year. Check our web page around mid-April to get complete, updated

His recent works include _Annoying the Victorians_(1995), _Erotic Innocence: The Culture of Child Molesting_ (1998), and _A History of the African-American People (proposed) by Strom Thurmond: a Novel_ (as told to Percival Everett & James Kincaid) (2004).

The Northern Plains Conference on Earlier British Literature welcomes
paper submissions on all aspects of British literature from Anglo-Saxon
times through the Eighteenth Century. This year the conference is being
hosted at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, on
April 7-8. Questions and abstracts for papers (15-minute reading length)

Shakespeare after 9/11:
MLA Special Session and Journal Issue

In conjunction with the theme of a future issue of the Shakespeare
Yearbook, "Shakespeare after 9/11" (Theme Editor, Matthew Biberman),
the journal will sponsor a special session at the upcoming Annual
Meeting of the MLA (Philadelphia, December 27-30, 2006).

SHAKESPEARE AND THE QUEEN'S MEN CONFERENCE
Toronto, 27-29 Oct 2006 -- Abstracts deadline: February 15, 2006

This major international conference at the University of Toronto is being
organized by the SSHRC-funded "Shakespeare and the Queen's Men" project in
association with Poculi Ludique Societas (PLS). The project, a joint venture
led by Alexandra Johnston (REED, University of Toronto) and Helen Ostovich
(McMaster University), aims to recreate the staging conditions of a
sixteenth-century touring company in order to study and test scholarly
theories about acting styles and repertory through performance practice.
