The C19 Podcast invites proposals from individuals and collaborators of all ranks for single podcast episodes that offer creative, story-driven analysis of topical events that spark connections to nineteenth-century America. We are especially interested in episodes that help make both the nineteenth-century and the specific disciplinary knowledge of our scholarly community legible and exciting to a wide audience. Cinema exists within the narrative frame that the director or writer chooses. How closely that reflects reality is entirely arbitrary. Yet it is undeniable that like all art, film plays a fundamental role in shaping the way we think about politics, culture, identity, and social norms.
The E. E. Cummings Society will sponsor two sessions at the 2025 American Literature Association conference in Boston [ https://americanliteratureassociation.org/ ]. Theatre Topics Special Issue Call for Papers: Whose Story? Resisting and Reimagining Master Narratives
Theatre tells stories; and theatre historically have been telling certain stories more than others. Examining several larger factors such as classicization, canonization, colonialism, racism and sexism, this special issue of Theatre Topics invites inquiries into ways in which theatre classics and canons may have formed historically, and the ways in which we are grappling with epistemic violence of erasure in our contemporary relationship with master narratives across the world.
Working Title - Planet Flanagan: Essays on the Netflix Series of Mike Flanagan
Mike Flanagan has steadily made a significant name for himself in horror, garnering praise for his originality in films such as Oculus (2013) and Hush (2016), and further critical acclaim for works like Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016), Gerald’s Game (2017) and especially his adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep (2019).
A conference reverberates. Sometimes as an echo chamber, things recapitulated. But a conference is also an unruly density—a format for waves of circulation, a temporary structuring of materials and hunches, nerves and notebooks, modes of listening or distraction. A conference is an ordinary nesting of interiors that shapes how thought resonates (the ways we transduce and echo each other, how an idea resounds or fails). STS is attentive to matters of knowledge work in labs and fieldsites: objects, networks, technics. But sometimes it forgets the mundane, the felt, what is improvised or patched together in scenes of knowing. After all, a panel is a fifteen-minute interval that consolidates and performs all the hard work of living that precedes.

Deadline: February 15, 2025 THEATRE ANNUALA Journal of Theatre and Performance of the Americas Call for Articles 2025 Issue Theatre Annual is the oldest theatre periodical continuously published in the United States. It is dedicated to examining theatre and performance of the Americas. We construe “America” broadly to include North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean Islands. Articles may treat work in these geographic areas or work from these areas that is presented elsewhere in the world.
I have several chapters for this collection, but I am looking for four or five more. Please send abstracts or inquiries by January 20, 2025. Chapters will be due by July 15, 2025.
All topics about dragons will be considered.
Please be advised that dragons are the primary focus of the collection. I have received several abstracts about fairy tales in general, and I apologize for any confusion caused by the CFP. All chapters must discuss dragons in some way.
