The Fourteenth Annual Perth Medieval and Renaissance Group Symposium
        "World as Stage / Stage as World."

The deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to Monday
15 May, 2006. We encourage the submission of papers that wish to
discuss notions of ritual and social performance across all disciplines.

A number of subsidies are available for postgraduates and early
career researchers to defray travel or accommodation costs,
apportioned according to distance from the symposium and the number
of applicants seeking financial assistance.

The Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture will hold its annual conference in Baltimore, MD, October 27-29, 2006.

Shakespeare's position in popular as well as high culture remains strong, with new works in fiction, film and other areas. But Shakespeare is not the only Renaissance figure to have a presence in modern popular culture. Other writers, historical figures, events and debates are still part of the popular landscape. This area welcomes topics on any aspect of the overlap or intersection between the Early Modern period (roughly 1500-1700) and the Postmodern one. Topics for this area can include, but are not limited to:

Papers are invited for the upcoming Global Beckett conference at the
University of Southern Denmark, Odense, October 25-27, 2006, organized by
the Universities of Southern Denmark, Oslo and Aarhus. Along with the
conference there will be an audiovisual Beckett exhibition at
Kunsthallen/Brandts Klaedefabrik in Odense.

       Beckett Studies has changed radically since Richard Gilman claimed that Beckett's imagination worked "almost entirely outside history". In recent years, much work has been done to recover the relevant social and cultural contexts for Beckett's work, and this process has been greatly expedited by continuing efforts to disseminate the contents of the many drafts and manuscripts housed in the archives.

Shakespeare Bulletin, a journal for the study of renaissance drama in
performance, published by the Johns Hopkins University Press, is pleased
to announce workshop titles for the RENAISSANCE DRAMA IN ACTION
conference, to be held November 8-12, 2006 on the University of Toronto
campus.
 
RENAISSANCE DRAMA IN ACTION will give scholars interested in performance
an opportunity to grapple with the practical realities of moving from
the page to the stage. Conference participants will sign up for a
rehearsal-and-performance workshop. Each workshop will focus on a
single scene from a play, one which exemplifies particular problems,
challenges, and/or rewards involved in staging renaissance drama.
