“Performance and Spectatorship in Film and Literature”

The graduate student research journal of the Department of Spanish and
Portuguese at UC Santa Barbara is soliciting papers for its forthcoming 2003
publication. The issue will focus on performance and spectatorship in Hispanic
and Lusophone film and literature. Interdisciplinary studies and approaches are
especially welcome.

Essays on Canadian Writing invites submissions of manuscripts for a =
special issue on textualizing orature and orality--the transformation of =
spoken, chanted, or sung vocalizations into printed or virtual text--and =
the ethical, political, aesthetic, and pedagogical issues raised by such =
textualizations. Some topics that might be addressed include:

  a.. textualized orature: works composed and passed on orally until =
transcribed or otherwise mediated (e.g. the work of anthropologists such =
as Marius Barbeau and Wendy Wickwire or poets like Robert Bringhurst);

CFP: egotistics: Open and Special Issues

egotistics is the online journal of EGO, the English Graduate Organization at
The University of Alabama. This peer-reviewed journal has been established to
offer graduate students and new professors the opportunity to publish their
critical writing on any topic regarding literature and critical theory. All
submissions will be reviewed by an editor and at least two assistant editors.
Rejected submissions will be returned with reader's suggestions. As always,
egotistics welcomes submissions for our open issues. Beginning spring 2003,
 we will publish one or two special topics issues per year.

SHAKESPEARE AND THE LOW COUNTRIES
Edited by Ton Hoenselaars and Holger Klein

The 2004 issue of the Shakespeare Yearbook will be devoted to
"Shakespeare and the Low Countries." The editors invite papers that
address Anglo-Dutch relations in the widest sense of the term insofar as
these manifestations of cultural exchange have a bearing on Shakespeare,
his fellow playwrights, and English Renaissance drama as a whole. Papers

Biographical Entries Sought: Black Diaspora Drama

Alexander Street Press seeks short biographical entries for inclusion in its
BLACK DRAMA database.

Alexander Street Press--an electronic publishing firm noted for its Civil
War Letters and Diaries and for North American Women’s Letters and
Diaries--is publishing a full-text searchable database titled BLACK DRAMA.
Integrating rare, hard-to-find plays and popular, widely-produced plays by
Blacks and about Blacks, BLACK DRAMA encompasses the work of playwrights
from the U.K., the Caribbean, the U.S. and Canada, and Anglophone Africa.

Aims and Scope

The journal provides a forum for new work relating the arts and literature
to the exploration of consciousness currently flourishing in many
disciplines such as philosophy, cognitive science, psychology,
neuroscience, computer science, and physics.

Dr. Philip C. Kolin, Professor of English at the Univ. of Southern
Mississippi and the General Editor of the Garland Shakespeare Criticism
Series, is soliciting one-page proposals for 25 page essays on Othello
for a future collection on the play. He wants proposals on papers that
deal directly and theoretically with race, representation, gender and
