Haiti Needs New Narratives: Literary and Critical Responses to Persistent 'Disaster Zone' Discourse
There is a Haitian phrase that describes the nation as being on tè glise, slippery ground. This condition is the effect of Haiti's many historical and contemporary catastrophes, both natural and (inter)national. Haiti has been beset by not only hurricanes and earthquakes, but also economic struggles after the revolution that freed the slaves and rocked the West, which persist under the further influence of U.S. imperialism and occupation and the devastating Duvalier dictatorships.

We're looking for female writers to submit a story with the theme of "chosen" or "defeating the odds," and no more than 2,500- 5,000 words. All stories should be Young Adult or New Adult, but can be dark and ominous, humorous, or even fantastical; you decide.
Stories should be submitted in standard manuscript format as a Microsoft word document. Send the story as an email attachment (stories sent in the body of the email will not be considered). All stories must be unpublished. Although, this is an unpaid endeavor, this is for a great cause, and a great way to be published, and a great way to get reviews and press. Proceeds will go to Project READ's drop-in center in Liberia, Nedra House.

A monographic volume on trauma and traumatic memory
Papers are invited to discuss a wide range of issues concerning trauma and traumatic memory ---- in poetry, novels, autobiographical works, book reviews etc.
Essays should be 7,000-8,500 words, including all quotations and bibliographic references, and should follow the MLA Style Manual (7th edition) for internal citation and Works Cited.

How are new(er) cultural studies issues received, negotiated, challenged, embraced, or rejected within the spaces of the Second World?
Borderlands are defined as being both 'an area of land close to a border between two countries' and 'an area between two qualities, ideas or subjects that has features of both but is not clearly one or the other' (Oxford Dictionaries, 2016). The significance of borders and borderlands has become particularly prevalent in contemporary society. Literature has always responded to the issues of its context of production such as Burke writing on the French Revolution up to and including Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche's 2013 novel Americanah addressing global concerns of nationality and migration.
Coldnoon: Travel Poetics (International Journal of Travel Writing) invites writings (prose/nonfiction/reserach/opinions/poetry/travelogues) on travel. For the month of March we will start receiving submissions from March 1, 2016, ending on March 20, 2016.
Selected writings, published in Diaries and Dialogues will qualify for publication in the journal, both online and print (EISSN 2278-9650; ISSN 2278-9642)
This panel looks to capitalize on the recent turn towards the Caribbean in Early American studies. Scholars such as Michael Drexler, Ed White, Elizabeth Maddock Dillon, Sean Goudie and Marlene Daut have provided an invaluable framework for conceiving the fraught connections between the U.S and the Caribbean. This panel is looking for papers that investigate the (de)generative discourses and ideologies produced by the movement of bodies, ideas and disease between the U.S, the Caribbean and the broader Atlantic. Papers might focus on how these categories were themselves compromised- bodies as diseases, diseases as ideas, ideas as diseases.

Humber College's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences of Toronto, Canada in association with the International Festival of Authors (IFOA) will be presenting its third annual interdisciplinary conference "Truth, Lies, and Manufacturing Memory." The International Festival of Authors (IFOA), one of the most celebrated literary festivals in the world, is located at the Harbourfront Centre, one of downtown Toronto's major cultural and artistic venues.
Wyndham Lewis's centrality in the 'little magazine' and periodical cultures of the early twentieth century is well established. In addition to editing several journals himself - 'BLAST', 'The Tyro', and 'The Enemy' - Lewis contributed to 'The English Review', 'The New Age', 'The Tramp', 'The Egoist', 'The Little Review', 'Art and Letters', 'The Athenaeum', and 'The Criterion', among many others. This volume of 'JWLS' seeks 7-10,000-word essays that will expand our understanding of Lewis's contributions to these publications and the social, artistic, bibliographic, and economic networks from which they are inseparable. All submissions should try to engage with the most recent relevant scholarship. Suggested topics include:

In Atlas of the European Novel, Franco Moretti argues that discourse changes at the border. When we cross geopolitical lines our stories, style, and language all record the shift. As the geographical expansion of modernism continues to occupy an important place in the field, what do national border crossings indicate about the shape of our defined literatures and the disciplinary approaches we use to study them? Might writing, performing, or screening the border itself articulate the "cultural parataxis" Susan Stanford Friedman describes in her model of planetarity?

Central & Eastern Europe's cultural visibility has increased since the 1989 Fall of the Berlin Wall and with Romanian-born German writer Herta Müller's 2009 Nobel Prize in Literature. In light of this new visibility, how are Central/Eastern European cultures and history being taught, both within and outside the region? What has changed in the way these countries (past and present) contribute to the understanding of the cultural configuration of the region or the continent? How and what should educators include in various curricula? How do we teach the communist period to new generations and/or to the West and the rest of the world?

The University of North Texas Graduate Students in English Association (GSEA) invites submissions for its annual graduate conference, to be held on April 8-10, 2016. The GSEA welcomes submissions on a variety of topics related to literary criticism, literary theory, cultural studies, material criticism, rhetoric and composition, English pedagogy, technical communication, poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Papers/presentations should last no more than 20 minutes.
