The electronic English Studies Forum publishes innovative critical and creative writing. ESF currently seeks submissions for sites on the following topics:

* "Image, Story, and Conversation" explores the idea that we imagine our world in archtypal patterns, three of which are image, story, and conversation.
* "The Postmodern Imagination and Beyond" asks "what are we imagining, and how?" This site investigates the postmodern imagination and the postmodern understanding of the nature/role of imagination in contemporary literature and culture. This site will also consider what post-postmodernism might look like.
* "PostColonial Literatures" examines postcolonial literatures and the postcolonial imagination.

Editors of BOWLES NOTES invite studies and commentaries written in English on
the works of Jane and/or Paul Bowles for inclusion in up-coming issues of
this newsletter. Articles focused on bringing Jane and/or Paul Bowles to the
university classroom are especially welcome. Submissions should be typewritten and
documented in standard MLA style. Send essays (500 to 2,000 words in length)

CFP: Companion to 20th C. British Poetry (no deadline; book)

Facts On File, a New York publisher of reference books for high school and
college students, is seeking a scholar to write or edit a one-volume
encyclopedia of twentieth-century British poetry. The ideal author will have
a Ph.D., broad knowledge of the subject, and an ability to write clearly and
succinctly for students. If the book is done with contributors, the editor
should also have extensive experience, good contacts in the field, and

edited by Gabrielle H. Cody and Evert Sprinchorn of Vassar College. This
four-volume set will offer a total of one million words on a variety of
topics ranging from Ibsen to the present, and the target audience consists
of college students, high school students and general readers. Following

Popular Cultures/Cultures of the Popular: 1870-1945
 From the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century critical
judgements about popular culture remained extremely diverse; theorists both
celebrated the emergence and preservation of popular cultural forms and
lamented the rise of new market-driven cultural commodities. Perhaps
because of such diversity, there are areas in which a thorough assessment
of the relationships within and between these positions remains to be
done. Popular culture was itself extremely diverse and developments in
critical studies have helped to produce a more detailed picture of the

The editor invites long articles [6000 words, MLA Style-sheet] on all
aspects of Lawrence Durrell and his works for the issue that is being
prepared for the press and could use additional essays. Scholars who have
an essay ready to submit may get in touch with the editor at

Manchester University Press is proud to announce the launch of a new
series dedicated to the critical appraisal of recent British fiction.
The Contemporary British Writers Series will reflect the breadth and
diversity of writing in Britain over the last thirty years, and will
provide critical evaluations of established, emerging and neglected
authors. Building on the success of the Press's Contemporary World
Writers, this series offers an exciting opportunity for the
interrogation of notions of the contemporary and for the analysis of
current and developing modes of representation.

The Tennessee Williams Annual Review publishes essays on Williams's work
as well as original, previously unpublished works by Tennessee Williams.

Americana: The Institute for the Study of American Popular Culture
(1900-present) is dedicated to the art of semiotic analysis and is
comprised of two major divisions. The first division is a website at
americanpopularculture.com featuring articles written by fellows in our
Think Tank for a mainstream audience. The second division, and the one
for which we are publishing this call for papers, is a peer-reviewed
academic journal targeted to an academic audience; it will be published
as a link on americanpopularculture.com.

HOW2 , an electronic extension of the 80s journal HOW(ever), focusing on
innovative writing and scholarship by and about contemporary and
modernist women writers, is seeking conference papers given in these
subject areas for the "In Conference" section of the journal. Recent
