CALL FOR PAPERS
                          _JEAN RHYS REVIEW_

The _Jean Rhys Review_ invites submissions of critical articles, and
comparative and biographical studies relating to any aspect of Rhys's life
and work. We also welcome book reviews, creative responses (such as
poetry), notes, queries, and pertinent announcements of colloquia or
research-in-progress. We are particularly interested in articles that
examine Jean Rhys's work in relation to that of her contemporaries, and to
the context of the literary climate in which she wrote. Articles may be
written in English or in French.

Articles should be no more than 30 pages in length and should follow MLA
format. Manuscripts will be returned if accompanied by a stamped,
self-addressed envelope.

Volume 7 has just been published, and includes "William Rees Williams in
Dominica" by Sue Thomas, "Voyage in the Dark, Esther Waters, and the
Naturalistic Tradition" by Betsy Berry, "'Another Poor Devil of a Human
Being ...': Jean Rhys and the Novel as Obeah" by Elaine Savory, "Two Poems
Beyond Jean Rhys: Julia on the Quay and Miss Verney's View from the Dustbin"
by Johanna Keller, and "Signifying Nothing: A Shakespearean Deconstruction
of Rhys's Rochester" by Judy Little, as well as the continuing Bibliography.
With this issue, we introduce a new section, "Reflections & Responses,"
which will consist of comments, exchanges, and brief notes concerning
various literary, historical, and biographical connections.

Begun in 1986, the _Jean Rhys Review_ seeks to provide a network for the
growing international community of those with an interest in Rhys's work;
the _Review_ is indexed by the MLA and is a member journal of the Council of
Editors of Learned Journals.
