History & Mission Statement

The Yearbook of Comparative & General Literature is published annually
under the auspices of the Department of Comparative Literature at Indiana
University. YCGL is proud to continue over 40 years of publishing
outstanding scholarly articles and reviews in literary studies with a
comparative, intercultural, or interdisciplinary emphasis. We invite
articles on the comparative study of the arts, film studies with a focus
on literature, international literary relations, pedagogy, and the theory
and practice of translation, as well as on the study of genres and modes,
themes and motifs, periods and movements.

Submission Guidelines

The author's name should appear only in the cover letter and should not
appear in the submission, except in notes or bibliographical citations
(with no first-person references). Manuscripts should meet the following

should be given in parentheses in the body of the text; do not use
footnotes or endnotes for bibliographical information.
2. In citing the complete references in the "Works Cited" section,
use the standard format for bibliographies, according to the MLA Handbook.
Be sure to include the following information: author, full title, series
(if applicable), translators/editors, place of publication and name of the
publisher, year of publication, page numbers for journal articles, pieces
in anthologies, and book chapters.
3. Send two hard copies of your article and one disk copy
(PC-formatted), in a monospaced font (such as Courier), and
