---- The Moving Image: Journal of the Association of Moving Image ArchivistsThe Association of Moving Image Archivists Board has approvedthe creation of a new professional journal, which will represent theinterests of AMIA, while also providing an open forum for archivists,librarians, technical specialists, scholars and academics interested in ourrapidly expanding field. While the AMIA Newsletter will continue to serveas a news forum, Moving Images will reflect in in-depth articles the diverseinterests of the membership, including its special interest groups for newsand documentary collections, amateur film, regional archives, and academicusers. The Journal with be published by the University of Minnesota Press. The Journal will address issues involving all moving imagematerials, including historic and contemporary film, television, and video,new and emerging digital technologies, as well as paper andthree-dimensional collections documenting the history of moving image media.The journal will offer a compelling mix of content, including:* Traditional scholarly papers and historical essays, especially thoseutilizing research in film archival collections* In-depth examinations of specific preservation and restorationprojects* Detailed profiles of moving image collections or archives* Interviews with leading figures in the community* Behind the scenes looks at the techniques used to preserve andrestore our moving image heritage* Theoretical and visionary articles and columns on the future of thefield* Historical articles aout the development of archives, museums andthe field of film/media studies* Technical and practical articles on research and development in thefield* Essays on the role of moving image archives and collections in thewriting of history* Reviews of books and films directly related to the archival field.* Illustrations, still reproductions, frame enlargements, andbefore-and-after image comparisons, many of which are readily available inthe collections of AMIA members. An editorial team and editorial board has been assembled. Publicationof the first issue is slated for Spring 2001. This will be a refereedjournal, maintaining the highest academic standards of writing. Anyone,whether a member of the Association or not, is welcome to submit manuscriptsand/or proposals.
