CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

A North American literary journal with a national reputation has expressed
interest in publishing a special section on New African Fiction. As editor
of this section, I am interested in foregrounding African literatures
generally under-represented in North American literary discourse: for
example, writing from African countries that were formerly aligned with
the Soviet bloc, African avant-garde writing, and contemporary literature
in African languages. The designation "fiction" should not be understood
rigidly; prose poetry, short essays, short dramatic pieces, and other
forms that stretch the definition of "fiction" will be considered. Both
translations (from either African or European languages) and original work
in English will be considered; the one requirement is that no piece can
have been previously published in English. Feel free to send submissions
in electronic format to either of the email addresses below, but make sure
also to send a hard copy to Nicholas Brown's English department address.
