CALL FOR PAPERS
Chinese America: History and Perspectives
Founded by Chinese American studies pioneer, Him Mark
Lai, Chinese America is the only journal dedicated to
the publication of articles and primary source
materials concerning the history of Chinese in the
Americas. Specialists in the study of Chinese
migration and settlement from all disciplinary
approaches are encouraged to submit original articles
for publication.
Past contributors include leading scholars such as
Wang Gungwu, Him Mark Lai, Ron Takaki, Sucheng Chan,
Judy Yung along with the work of up-and-coming junior
scholars and historically-minded community leaders.
Chinese America is published annually through the
joint sponsorship of the Chinese Historical Society of
America and the Asian American Studies Department at
San Francisco State University. Articles are accepted
after review by an editorial committee which now
includes noted authors Colleen Fong, Marlon Hom,
Madeline Hsu, Him Mark Lai, Ruthann Lum McCunn, and
Laurene Wu McClain.

Please send manuscripts in the form of two hard and
one electronic copies to: Dr. Marlon Hom, c/o Asian
American Studies, San Francisco State University, 1600
Holloway Avenue, San Francisco CA 94132. The
submission deadline is January of each year for
publication in January of the following year. Upon
publication, contributors will receive two
complimentary copies of the journal.
Manuscripts should not exceed five thousand words in
length (excluding endnotes) and should conform to the
Chicago Manual of Style. A style sheet can be sent
upon request.
