CALL FOR PAPERS

The editors of the SOUTHERN LITERARY JOURNAL invite submissions for a
special issue focusing on southern autobiography--black or white, male or
female, classic or contemporary--and the autobiographical impulse (as
manifested in fiction as well as autobiography and memoir) endemic to
southern authorship. Articles emphasizing new approaches, new readings, or
previously neglected authors and works are particularly desired.

Queries not required. Submit one copy of an article-length essay (twenty to
thirty double-spaced pages) accompanied by a cover letter and self-addressed
stamped envelope, and include mention of your wish to be considered for this
special issue. Address submissions to the Managing Editor, Southern Literary
Journal, CB#3520 Greenlaw Hall, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill,
NC 27599-3520. Early submissions are strongly encouraged and should be
postmarked by 8/1/03.

Direct questions to: Christopher Windolph, Managing Editor (slj_at_unc.edu).

Published biannually since 1968, the SOUTHERN LITERARY JOURNAL has a
long-standing commitment to diverse scholarship on early writers as well as

American South. Recent issues include essays on Allison, Bonner, Cable,
Chesnutt, Chopin, Crews, Faulkner, Glasgow, Hannah, Hurston, Longstreet,
Morrison, Percy, Poe, Porter, Simms, Styron, Tourgee, Twain, Welty,
Williams, and Wolfe. The SOUTHERN LITERARY JOURNAL is available online via
PROJECT MUSE (http://muse.jhu.edu/).
