CFP: Jewish Orientalism (7/?/03; collection)
Authors are wanted for a collection of essays on Jewish Orientalism.
This volume will encompass theoretical engagements with Edward Said and
other postcolonial theorists by examining the nexus of Jewish identity and
the Oriental Other Within/Without literary, cinematic, and other
representations. Perspectives are welcomed from scholars working on
cultural history (such as the "post-Zionism" debates), intellectual
history, or literary analysis. Topics might encompass Diaspora, migration,
the Jewish narration of national culture vis-a-vis the Other; history and
postcoloniality; focuses that encompass literature, art, as well as
popular culture, international relations, globalization, Jewish myths (or
myths about Jews) and stereotypes. Comparative discussions of contemporary
as well as historical discursive formulations in the Middle-East, North
America, and Europe. Essays should be no more than 20 pages, including
notes and bibliographies (following the PMLA or latest Chicago Style
Manual sheet). Faculty members and advanced graduate students are invited
to write entries. The submissions process is open till July 2003.
