Call for Papers: =B3Soundings,=B2 a new section of VOICES FROM THE GAPS website

The award-winning web project Voices from the Gaps (voices.cla.umn.edu),
dedicated to the lives and works of North American women writers of color,
is proud to launch SOUNDINGS (voices.cla.umn.edu/SOUNDINGS/index.html) as
part of the site=B9s new, smart redesign. A new section of the Voices website
that encourages critical conversations on the works of women of color
writers, SOUNDINGS invites writers to submit critical essays or short
academic papers in response to questions such as:

What issues of identity, representation, and politics does a category like
"American minority women writers" raise?
    What kind of pedagogical debates does it present?
    How does it create political coalitions or fractures?
    Who is included in this category?

Essays should be approximately 750 to 2500 words in MLA format. Accepted
works will be published in SOUNDINGS on a rolling basis with new discussion
topics on a quarterly basis. For reference, please read Christina Schmid=B9s
=B3Identity in the Classroom: Teaching Voices from the Gaps.=B2 Undergraduate
writers are strongly encouraged to submit work.

Voices from the Gaps is a World Wide Web project that focuses on the lives
and works of women writers of color in North America. The Voices project is
made possible through an ongoing collaborative effort between faculty and
students in the Department of English and the Program in American Studies a=
t
the University of Minnesota. All author biographies, book reviews, and
essays are contributions by writers across North America. In addition to
SOUNDINGS, Voices also accepts book reviews for RESOUND
(voices.cla.umn.edu/ReSound/index.html) as well as biographies on women of
color writers for their author pages. Last year, the site=B9s traffic average=
d
to about 4,100 clicks a day.
