Call for Papers: Lines of Flight Issue 2

The Archive Drive: Who’s Doing History Now?

Lines of Flight provides a new point of entry into the increasingly
dynamic and multi-centred discursive field of postgraduate electronic
publication in the arts and humanities. Managed by an editorial collective
based in the School of English, Journalism and European Languages at the
University of Tasmania, Lines of Flight is an internationally refereed,
annual on-line review that provides a space for the circulation of
research by postgraduates working across a range of disciplines. Given
that the essays that appear on this site will often emerge out of research
higher degrees-in-progress, we actively encourage feedback that might help
our contributors negotiate the path toward completion. We also ask
contributors to include an abstract of their thesis with articles for
publication where a relation of conjunction holds between them.

We are currently seeking submissions for our second issue from
postgraduate students working across the range of arts, fine arts and
humanities subjects whose research involves them in historical analysis
and investigation of any kind. The framing contention for this edition of
L.O.F is that historical research of a sort traditionally restricted to
history departments is now blossoming outside that jurisdiction to such an
extent that the disciplinary emplacement of history is at risk of being
blown wide open. How do the non- historical disciplines deal with the
truth claims of history? Does history need to police its methodological
borders more vigilantly? Does any problematic that engages the past
qualify as a kind of history? We are especially keen to publish work by
history postgraduatess that takes a historiographical approach to concerns
of this nature.

Submissions of up to 6000 words should be formatted according to the MLA
referencing system and sent as Microsoft word attachments to
jshipway_at_utas.edu.au. Submissions close October 31st, 2003. Lines of
