Composite volumes are currently being organized for Series III of Ashgate's
THE EARLY MODERN ENGLISHWOMAN: A FACSIMILE LIBRARY OF ESSENTIAL WORKS,
1500-1750 [EMEW]. EMEW has already put over 100 texts by women in print,
many in composite volumes, edited--with introductory essays--by various
hands.
Dozens of additional writings by women are in various stages of production.

Series III (Essential Works for the Study of Early Modern Women) consists of
texts by and about early modern women. Volume editors will be involved with
the selection of copy for the volume and will write a short introductory
essay (ca. 12,000 words, including a bibliography).

The General Editors extend a call to qualified persons for proposals for the
following composite volumes:

1. Cook Books [books of culinary and medical receipts]
2. The Trained Hand [manuals on penmanship and needlework]
3. Reference Books [e.g., dictionaries for women]
4. Gardening Manuals
5. Letter-writing manuals

Prospective contributors to this international effort are invited to write
to the general editors. Proposals, no longer than 5 pages in length and IN
HARD COPY, should include a list of proposed texts/contents for the volume
(normally totaling between 100 and 400 pages) and a cv demonstrating the
proposed volume editor's familiarity with the materials. They should be sent
by September 15, 2003 to both General Editors at the following addresses:

Anne Lake Prescott, Department of English, Barnard College, New York, NY
10027

Betty S. Travitsky, Center for the Study of Women and Society, CUNY Graduate
Center, 365 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10016
