Call For Proposals
Topic: “The Writer on Writing, The Artist on Art”

The Department of French Studies at Brown University announces the topic
of its Spring/Summer 2004 issue of Equinoxes: A Graduate Journal of French
and Francophone Studies

We invite graduate students to submit papers relevant to the theme of the
writer on writing, or the artist on art, as it pertains to literary and
artistic creation. While keeping the topic as broad as possible, we hope
to focus on the complex relationships between the artist-creator and her
or his work. We welcome submissions that treat French and Francophone
works, as well as broader cultural or theoretical issues, from the Middle
Ages to the present.

The Spring/Summer 2004 Issue of Equinoxes: A Graduate Journal of French
and Francophone Studies will be devoted in part to the proceedings of our
conference, to be held March 12 and 13, 2004, at Brown University. Those
wishing to have their articles considered for publication in the journal
should be prepared to send us their papers by March 8, 2004 (NB: this is
one week before the conference). Articles should be MLA style and between
2500-3500 words in length. Submissions should be made electronically by
sending an e-mail to Equinoxes_at_brown.edu with the author's name,
affiliation and contact information in the body of the message and the
text in attachment. No abstract is necessary for those interested only in
publication in the Equinoxes journal.

Equinoxes is an electronic journal committed to academic excellence and
creative scholarship published twice yearly by the graduate students of
Brown University's Department of French Studies in conjunction with its
annual conference, a tradition since 1993. Intended as a forum for
exchange among graduate students in French & Francophone Studies and
related fields, Equinoxes publishes scholarly articles in both French and
English, as well as book reviews, interviews, commentaries on the field,
short fiction, poetry and translations. In the interest of promoting
dialogue across periods and genres, each issue is designed around a
proposed theme. However, the journal also maintains an "open" space for
quality writing that falls under any of the above-mentioned categories,
regardless of its subject.
