publisher---McFarland. There is still plenty of time to submit abstracts and essays
for the volume. See information below.

Queer TV
An Edited Collection

Call For Papers: We are soliciting manuscripts and proposals for an edited
collection tentatively entitled Queer TV. The volume is intended to respond to
the wave of new television programs addressing gay and lesbian issues. The
programming that may be addressed includes, but is not limited to Queer as Folk,
Will & Grace, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Six Feet Under, The Ellen De
Generes Show, Boy Meets Boy and VH1's Totally Gay. Individual studies may also
address television series' that merely include a single gay or lesbian
character or a distinctive episode devoted to a subject pertinent to the gay
community. Other acceptable programming includes made-for-television movies,
documentaries, news reports, and short lived series such as Normal, Ohio.

The best submissions will address the politics of representation. They
should have a sound theoretical basis and should avoid mere summary. We are
interested in the negotiation between the political left and right as they are
played out on television screens in America's living rooms. We are interested in
the reciprocal exchange between art and audience, a process that observes the
ways in which contemporary events influence television and television impacts
contemporary events.

We encourage proposals, but we will be unable to make a final decision until
we have received a complete draft. We cannot accept previously published
material. Submissions should be documented in MLA style and should be formatted in
either Word or WordPerfect. Please do not use an auto-numbering system for
the endnotes in the final copy. The essays should not exceed twenty pages.
Those submissions that are accepted must be submitted on diskette. Deadline for
submission of completed drafts is May 1.

We encourage E-mail submissions which can be sent to the following addresses:
jrk_at_muw.edu or lstratyn_at_muw.edu
