Encounters with James Baldwin (A tribute to James Baldwin on the eightieth
anniversary of his birth)

On August 2, 2004, James Arthur Baldwin would have celebrated his eightieth
birthday. On this occasion, I would like to pay tribute to the prominent
African-American figure by publishing a collection of texts about
encounters – be they real, virtual or symbolic – with the author. By
focusing primarily on encounters made in a French context (in a very wide
sense), this collection aims at bearing witness to the liveliness of Baldwin
's legacy in France.
