CFP: Erskine Caldwell (3/31/04; collection)
I am interested in receiving detailed proposals (500 words) or whole essays
on Erskine Caldwell for possible inclusion in a collection to be published
in 2005 by McFarland. The goal is to elevate Caldwell's critical stature by
presenting fresh studies that measure his work fully-and
provocatively-against established traditions of American literature.
All approaches are welcome, but to complement other essays in the volume, I
am particularly interested in including discussions of the following topics:
* Caldwell and the phenomenon of the Southern Renaissance
* Caldwell, Flannery O'Connor, and approaches to the Southern
grotesque
* Caldwell's influence on writers like Harry Crews, Larry Brown, James
Dickey, Dorothy Allison, and Cormac McCarthy
A full draft of accepted essays will be due by September 1, 2004.
Please respond by March 31, 2004. E-mail queries are encouraged:
