MLA Approaches to Teaching World Literature
APPROACHES TO TEACHING POE'S PROSE AND POETRY
Eds. Jeffrey Andrew Weinstock and Anthony Magistrale

The editors of the MLA Approaches to Teaching Poe's Prose and Poetry seek
1-2 page proposals for possible inclusions. Possible topics include, but
are not limited to:

Poe in a variety of pedagogical contexts, including the survey course in World and American literature
Poe in the 19th-Century literature seminar
Poe in the composition course,and Poe in special topics seminars
Poe and the development of American periodical literature
Poe, plagiarism, and hoaxes
Poe and American popular culture trends and fads
Poe and sentimental culture
Poe and the Enlightenment
Poe and antebellum attitudes toward race and gender
The changing reception of Poe
Poe in France and other countries
Poe's influence upon world literature
Poe's influence upon the Gothic tradition
Poe and literary theory: the circulation of Poe's purloined letter
Poe's SF and detective fiction
Poe as poet
Poe as critic, novelist, reviewer, and essayist

Given that this is an MLA Approaches to Teaching volume, essays to be
included will emphasize pedagogical approaches and applications of Poe.
(Interested individuals are encouraged to consult volumes in the MLA
Approaches to Teaching World Literature series for examples.)
