CFP: Representations of Intelligence in Popular Television (6/13/05; collection)
*CALL FOR PAPERS* Edited Book
Editor, Lisa Holderman, Ph.D., Department of English, Communications,
and Theater Arts, Arcadia University
Editor is seeking contributions for an edited volume focusing on
representations of intelligence in popular television. The editor is
working closely with a publisher that has conveyed strong interest in
this project.
The book addresses the issue of the constructions of intelligence and
intellectuality in popular television and the social/cultural
implications of those constructions.
Papers might focus on constructions of intelligence and intellectuality
in various forms including professors and teachers, classrooms and
schooling, scientists, individuals with advanced degrees, distinctions
made between "book smarts" and "street smarts," constructions of "nerds"
and "geeks," or other representations of critical thinkers or people
with erudition.
All methods and theoretical perspectives are welcome.
Papers might focus on (but are not limited to):
* Prime time television
* Reality TV
* Talk Shows
* Soap Operas
* Children's television
The due date for submission of extended abstracts or completed
manuscripts is June 13, 2005. The editor will then review submissions
and contact contributors by July 15, 2005.
A final version of those pieces accepted for publication should be 20 -
25 double spaced pages (approximately 5,000 - 5,550 words) and written
in compliance with the APA Style Manual (5th edition). Anticipated due
date for completed manuscripts is November 15, 2005.
